Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Apparel PD Specialist is responsible for assisting the apparel development team in staying on calendar through all phases of seasonal development and approval process. This role will interface with all apparel product development and merchant functions as well as overseas production partners. Utilize our PLM system to document and communicate product needs to ensure garment uniformity and consistency as it pertains to branding, color, fit, construction and quality. Work with fit technicians to apply standards and evaluate samples.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs initial product review of garment samples - measuring POM, partners with product development team in addressing any challenges regarding specifications, construction, materials, or fit. Presents fit samples to merchant team for feedback and communicate any revisions to factory.
  • Maintains and updates tech packs related to sizing, fit standards, and feedback on development process of styles in PLM system.
  • Develops technical design drawings and construction standards for brands.
  • Coordinates fit sessions with development team, prepares garments and paperwork for fit sessions.
  • Collaborates with design team to maintain fit standards and achieve style design intent.
  • Takes concise fit notes, document, and advise vendors and team members of PLM updates.
  • Approves fit, trim components and construction of garments within development and production timeline.
  • Communicates fit comments, corrections, and approvals, to international office, factories, and QC.
  • Ensures pre-production and production samples are complete to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Communicates daily and follows through with development team and international vendors
  • ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Degree Required: bachelor's degree in textiles and apparel design or related product development field

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:

  • Strong team player, creative thinker with basic process knowledge regarding apparel product development.
  • Ability to spec garments, develop patterns, troubleshoot sample fit issues, and make corrections. Practical technical design project experience, including but not limited to, fittings, approvals, patternmaking, and construction of garments, technical sketching, and creating tech packs.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator experience is preferred
  • Proficiency in MS Windows software
  • Understanding of color evaluation
  • Communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to collaborate in a cross functional team environment
  • Accountable to follow through on a task from beginning to end
  • Ability to self-manage/work independently

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regular computer work, walking, standing, and sitting
  • Occasional lifting up to 50lbs

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:

  • Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
