The Stoughton Area School District is accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Assistant Principal for Stoughton High School.


Job Summary:

Provide leadership in the coordination, supervision, and continuous improvement of the educational programs at the High School. The administrator works proactively and responsively to support and maintain a safe, supportive climate, focusing on a high level of learning for each child. Decisions our leader makes each day will be grounded in an equity imperative, which means that each child receives what they need to develop to their full academic and social potential. They will help to bring our staff members to their highest levels of contribution, and will offer clear, descriptive and ongoing feedback to advance their practice, while providing the environment necessary for all students to achieve their full potential.


Essential Job Functions:

  1. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school.

  2. Establishes and maintains high standards for student performance and staff performance.

  3. Administers the school in accordance with the policies and vision of the Board of Education.

  4. Supervises and evaluates assigned instructional and support staff in accordance with Board Policies, Master Agreements, Handbooks, and District Goals.

  5. Leads by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared by the school community.

  6. Manages by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to pupil learning and staff professional growth.

  7. Ensures management of the organization, operations, finances, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.

  8. Listens and speaks effectively with the ability to interact positively with students, staff, and the community. Models collaboration and utilizes parent, student, and community feedback in the improvement of educational programs.

  9. Acts with integrity and in an ethical manner.

  10. Understands, responds to, and interacts with the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context that affects schooling.

  11. Manages the educational programs for all students.

  12. Articulates the vision and provides support to staff as they experience the change process

  13. Participate as a member of collaborative problem-solving teams that invest in finding solutions to barriers inhibiting the successful inclusion and education of any student.

  14. Secures resources to enable staff to meet the needs of all students.

  15. Assists in administering the school in accordance with the policies of the Board of Education.

  16. Monitors education policies and laws related to all students, including those with disabilities.

  17. Leads and facilitates meetings such as the Building Services Delivery Team and Building Consultation Team.

  18. Attends and participates in school board meetings, study committees, administrative council, and building meetings as assigned.

  19. Assists in budget preparation and administration and directs assigned department budgets.

  20. Leads the development of an inclusive service delivery model for all students.

  21. Develops and implements standards for student conduct, discipline, and attendance. Supervises students within these.

  22. Uses technology to analyze student attendance, discipline, and academic achievement needs to lead improvement efforts.

  23. Is responsible for adhering to the hiring processes to hire and assign staff according to qualifications and certifications.

  24. Is responsible for special education services to provide the least restrictive environment for children with special needs.

  25. Attends and supervises assigned extra-curricular activities, programs, and ceremonies.

  26. Completes required assigned building reports, including, but not limited to, school performance, attendance, discipline, personnel, at-risk, and special education.

  27. Assists in developing the master schedule.

  28. Coordinates the administration of state tests for students.

  29. Participates in professional organizations and attends professional meetings and seminars.

  30. Complies with absence policies of the district.

Marginal Job Functions:

  1. All other duties assigned which relate to the functions of the job.


Job Qualifications:

  1. Possess an administrator's license for the secondary level and meet the established qualifications set forth by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for the position of Secondary School Associate Principal.

  2. Minimum of three years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience at the secondary level.

  3. Demonstrates competence in the Administrator Standards.

  4. Excellent communication and collaboration skills in order to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community.

Requirements of Essential Functions:

Occasional (1-33%) bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, squatting, reaching, and stair climbing are required to perform the essential job functions.


Lifting: 0-10 pounds constantly (66-100%)
