HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow is Responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

This position will be in support of the newly-opened laboratory of Rosarda Laboratory in the department of Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

The Rosarda laboratory studies cell type specific patterns of stress pathway activation using in vivo, in vitro, and bioinformatic approaches. We use chemical-biological and chemical-genetic approaches for activating stress responsive signaling pathways in mammalian cells and murine models, high throughput and single cell sequencing strategies for defining stress pathway activity, and are developing novel approaches for defining mechanisms of action for pharmacologic and metabolomic regulators of stress signaling.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist in the planning, designing, developing, executing, and implementing of scientific research projects and experiments.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
  • Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.
  • Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involves specialized procedures.
  • Responsible for carrying out research goals in collaboration with research team.
  • Trains graduate students and other trainees in laboratory techniques and processes as needed.
  • Assists with the preparation of data for publication in scientific journals
  • Present findings at local, national, and/or international conferences.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral degree. Degrees and/or experience in cell biology, bioinformatics, chemsitry, biochemistry, or neuroscience preferred.
  • Minimum of 0-5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of appropriate scientific area
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of a research team, and proven ability to meet research deadlines
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures
  • Knowledge of standard scientific computing languages (e.g. R, python) is beneficial
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics (e.g. RNA sequencing analysis) is beneficial
  • Prior experience with standard molecular biology approaches (e.g. nucleic acid isolation, protein purification, western blotting) is required
  • Prior laboratory animal handling skills are beneficial
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
