Department Summary

The Geospatial Operations Department is the heart of PGE's Geographic Information System (GIS), and is generally responsible for creation, acquisition, maintenance, query and visualization of PGE's system data. They are the gatekeepers of PGE's GIS data, representing not only locations of system components but modelling its connectivity as well. The data they manage is also used to make important decisions via visualization and analyses. Data quality and end user experience are the primary drivers toward a complete and accurate GIS to support critical business systems and functions, like OMS, ADMS, and CYME, across the company.

Job Summary

As a GIS Technician you'll primarily be responsible for the mapping of data corrections in the production GIS environment. These corrections may come in the form of ad hoc requests from other PGE employees or as part of an organized clean-up project. In this role you will also support additional work needed for developing process improvements and tracking correction requests in QuickBase.

Key Responsibilities

Data Creation: Creates and updates geospatial data. Digitizes and compiles geographic features to maintain spatial relationships using topology. Applies appropriate cartographic standards. Checks maps against field data and revises data as changes occur. Works with field personnel and work order posters/as-built updates to assure timely and accurate spatial data is entered and maintained in MicrostationCAD, ArcFM and ESRI GIS environments. May train other technicians or respond to questions.

Queries: Develops and runs spatial queries and special reports. Formats reports and data to meet user needs. Obtains data from multiple sources and combines to meet user needs.

Processes: Develops department processes. Maintains department cartographic standards, written processes and templates; updates as needed. Maintains electric system database and templates. Creates and compiles feature geometry and attributes and solve common data alignment issues.

Systems: Performs more complex system and data troubleshooting. Collaborates with IT to resolve system or data issues.

Consultation: Responds to questions from customers or other technicians about processes and maps. May train other technicians and serve as department process subject matter expert. Delegates tasks to other GIS technicians.


Education/Experience/Certifications

Education: Requires an associate degree in geography or geomatics or equivalent experience or coursework.

Experience: Five or more years in GIS or related field. Demonstrated experience with ESRI ArcGIS Desktop suite required. Demonstrated experience with ArcFM preferred.

Knowledge of cartographic principles, spatial analysis techniques, and data management practices.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred experience with lidar and other remote sensing data.

PGE supports hybrid flexible work arrangements; and will have a combination of in-the-office and working offsite. This individual must be based within 75 miles of the work location and will be required to work in-the-office at least once a week. However, these arrangements may change due to business needs or changes in responsibility.

Compensation Range:

$26.15 - $48.86

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
