A direct hire for Lead Machinist position in Indianapolis, IN is available through Belcan with one of our key manufacturing clients. A Lead Machinist sets up, calls up programs and operates machine tools to hold tight tolerance or perform difficult operations; troubleshoots production problems and recommends methods to improve production times and quality. An ideal candidate will have a one year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Sets up and operates metalworking machine tools such as lathe, milling machine, shaper, or grinder to machine parts to specifications, and verifies conformance of parts to specifications.
* May edit programs during set up to achieve desired results. Handles the more difficult machining operations and set-ups in an area.
* Troubleshoots production problems in assigned areas. Makes recommendations on improvements in process or methods.
* May make changes in work procedures when assigned or may assist in developing work procedures for new work once jobs are developed.
* Assists other operators with production and quality problems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must be a US Citizen
* One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six years related experience and/or training; OR
* Equivalent combination of education and experience. (3-6 years of experience in close tolerance machining is required.)
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodical, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
* Ability to read and interpret document such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
* Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
* Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
* Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
* Adhere to rules and regulations of a FAA Safety Sensitive Position
