The Position

Job TitleSenior Accountant

Job Description

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for corporate accounting functions including reconciliations, financial statement preparation, process improvements, and other accounting objectives.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

  • Prepares and reviews daily/monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Collaborates with the business unit and other corporate departments for clearing of reconciliation items, general ledger questions as it relates to budgeting and forecasting, expense coding and accounts payable inquiries, and other as required.
  • Assists with Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Prepares monthly journal entries.
  • Performs the month-end close process (including depreciation, amortization, accruals, prepaids).
  • Assists and collaborates with corporate accounting team.
  • Leads and executes process improvements/automation, special projects, and initiatives towards enterprise goals.
  • Reviews and ensures accuracy of financial statement consolidation between business line operating systems and bank core system.
  • Prepares monthly reports of account reconciliation status, outstanding item reporting, special project status, and other reports as required by management.
  • Acts as backup for other accounting duties as needed.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES

  • Performs other duties as requested by Executive Management or Supervisor.
  • Completes all required compliance exams on a yearly basis.
  • Adherence to all First United Policies and Procedures.
  • Dresses professionally.
  • Recommends to supervisor possible methods to improve department.

Education and Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance.
  • MBA or CPA, a plus.
  • Experience in financial services industry or public accounting a plus.

Technical/Functional Competencies

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel.
  • Power BI or SQL experience a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
