Department Summary

The Trailblazer Elite Program is a unique and prestigious organization designed to ensure that first-generation college students are successful in meeting their academic, career, and personal goals. The program provides opportunities, resources, skills development, and connects students with a mentor to help prepare them for their future careers. Our focus is to help students successfully navigate through college with strong support systems.

Creating a welcoming environment and building a sense of community and trust is a priority for The Trailblazer Elite Program. The President's cabinet, mentors, academic advisors, counselors, faculty, and staff are part of a support structure that helps guide our students every step of the way.

Ensuring that students successfully graduate from UNT Dallas is the primary goal of The Trailblazer Elite Program.

Position Overview

The Trailblazer Elite Student Success Coordinator is an intermediate level position that oversees the peer success coaching program with the intent of assisting incoming new and transfer students from the point of admission through enrollment using a case management approach. This includes providing information and support regarding the Trailblazer Elite programs and services, case management, intake, orientation and registration, financial aid interpretation, facilitating student engagement in academic and cocurricular activities, and university policies and procedures. The Trailblazer Elite Student Success Manager is ultimately responsible for helping to position students for success as they transition to college-level coursework and rigorous academic and professional expectations. They will collaborate frequently with the Offices of Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid Scholarships, and Student Affairs and provide reports on the growth and goals of the program. As an integral part of the University, the Trailblazer Elite Student Success Manager Coordinator reports to the Supervisor of the Trailblazer Elite Program.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and three years of experience in enrollment management, student success, academic advising, student affairs or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of retention management, student success, academic advising, and/or new student orientation practices
  • Considerable knowledge of University policies and procedures related to functional area (or ability to rapidly assimilate).
  • Current knowledge of student development and counseling theory
  • Strong presentation, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to work independently

Job Duties:

  • Monitor caseload and program oversight, with attention to student progress towards successful enrollment, problem areas, and intervention activities and processes for students as they begin their experience at UNT Dallas.
  • Participates in off-campus and on-campus events supporting the Trailblazer Elite program.
  • Develops a vision for implementing a successful coaching model and program for at-risk students.
  • Incorporates best practices research to effectively coach and support the work of the students Trailblazer Elite students.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates the work of student workers.
  • Collect, maintain, and utilize assessment data to help improve student persistence and completion.
  • Provide supervision and leadership to students of the Trailblazer Elite program.

Monday - Friday: 8-5pm, sometime evenings and weekends
