About the Job

Position Overview
The Child Brain and Perception (CBP) lab in the Institute of Child Development at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, directed by Dr. Charisse Pickron, is now hiring a part-time lab manager. The CBP lab studies perceptual and social development in children between the ages of 0 to 5 years. We are particularly interested in the way infants and children perceive and think about individuals as well as social groups in one's environment. The lab uses a mix of behavioral and neuroscience measures to study these topics. The candidate will assist Dr. Pickron as well as graduate and undergraduate research assistants in managing and conducting laboratory activities. We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic, creative, thoughtful, and well organized. This position is 0.5 FTE (20 hrs/wk) and may include evenings and weekends. The minimum starting hourly rate is $20.76.

This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be done remotely when appropriate and approved by your manager. All UMN employees are expected to follow applicable public health and safety procedures.

Job Responsibilities

Data Collection Support (50%)

The lab manager will be trained in current lab related projects and be available to support research participant visits. Research assistants and graduate students in the lab are primarily responsible for data collection, but the lab manager will have the training and skills to support them as needed. Data Collection Support responsibilities may include:

* participant recruitment and data collection
* preparing testing materials and equipment
* welcoming families to the lab, babysitting siblings
* reviewing research paperwork and conducting interviews
* cleaning up after participant visits
* Data entry, data management, data safety/security
* Lead and manage completing IRB human subjects research paperwork and submissions.
* Communication with participants & participant families

Lab Management (50%)

* Clerical responsibilities for research projects and lab activities
* Maintain & organize the lab schedule. This includes, but not limited to, data collection calendars, undergraduate RA weekly lab hours, the weekly lab meeting, lab outings/events
* Ordering and tracking supplies and equipment for the lab
* Attend and take notes for weekly lab meetings
* Maintain & organize lab email, UMN Google suite apps, including Drive documents and Calendar as well as UMN Box folders for the CBP Lab
* Update & maintain lab to-do list - being able to contribute to completing tasks and delegating these tasks to undergraduate RAs
* Writing, editing, and maintaining lab documents and file management
* Following & maintaining data and file management best practices for an organized lab

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

* BA/BS with at least 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 6 years.
* A minimum of 1 year experience working in developmental psychology research lab
* Experience with audio video recording system, such as Pearl
* Experience with maintaining and using eye tracking equipment, such as Tobii Fusion
* Experience with maintaining and using ANT Neuro EEG equipment
* Demonstrable experience working directly with infants, toddlers, and children
* Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.

Preferred Qualifications

* BA/BS in child development, psychology, communications, neuroscience, public health, or related field
* Introductory or Proficient statistical and/or computer science skills (e.g., coding in R, Matlab, conducting ANOVAs & regression analysis)
* Detailed oriented, organized, and succeeds at multitasking (e.g., maintain & create organizational systems, detailed documentation, clear workflow)
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (e.g., written and verbal communication)
* Willing & eager to independently learn more skills
