Note: This position is specially funded limited-term Grant. Funding is contingent upon the terms of the grant and this position is currently funded through 6/30/25. The purpose of the grant is to provide bilingual academic support to adult students.

Under the supervision of the Associate Dean in the General Education Pathway, assists in the instructional process by providing general support in a classroom setting and lab and provides tutoring and case management support to individuals or small groups. Work is generally diversified based on the needs of the students enrolled in this pathway. Judgment and analysis are required in making decisions within established procedures. Supervision received is general in nature. Daily responsibilities are completed independently using established policies and general objectives with occasional supervisory contact for policy clarification or interpretation.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Observes learning behaviors, develops strategies and anticipates learning outcomes to help students accomplish their academic goals; determines and schedules appropriate tutoring methods for students.
  • Provides alternative instruction for specific academic skills, consistent with classroom instruction.
  • Encourages learning and study skill behaviors that help students to accomplish their academic goals.
  • Assumes responsibility for the maintenance of center and other spaces assigned; establishes and enforces regulations related to center and the equipment used; manages inventory of supplies and equipment; creates purchase orders for needed equipment and supplies.
  • Updates inventory and other data; prepares relevant reports, study guides and reference materials.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining files, databases, and progress records; prepares reports as required or assigned. Reports to Associate Dean and advising, remediation and retention committees on the status of student performance.
  • Maintains flexible office hours for walk-in assistance and questions.
  • Assists with developing and implementing tutoring initiatives.
  • Acts as a liaison between students and faculty.
  • Represents Tutoring Services in the college community.
  • Provides general information about MATC including Student Services and Career Resources; refers students to other departments or services to meet their educational needs.
  • Participates in related in-service training, workshops, divisional meetings, and other educational activities as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the pathway.
Qualifications

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate degree or higher in Education or in a closely related field.
Experience: At least two (2) years of direct student support: (e.g. Tutoring, Educational Assisting, or Advising experience).
Bilingual Spanish/English Fluency (able to read, write and speak in both languages) *this skill will be assessed during the interview stage

Preferred Education and Experience in addition to the minimums listed above:
Bachelor's degree or higher in related field and with at least three (3) or more years of comparable experience at the high school, technical or higher education environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs. and ability pull up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of time spent sitting, 25% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.
Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the General Education Pathway and is available to start July 1st, 2024.

This position is specially funded limiter-term Grant. Funding is contingent upon the terms of the grant and this position is currently funded through 6/30/25.
Hours: Up to 19 hours weekly, 43 week academic year position which typically runs from mid-August thru mid-May.
Days/Times: Hours are typically M-F with the ability to flex between 1st AND 2nd shifts.
Location: Based out of the West Allis Campus with the ability to assist other campuses (primarily the Downtown Campus) as needed.
Modality: In-person

Salary: Salary is determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity. Salary determination will be only based on years of credited experience that is listed on the job application, please include complete work history.
