Job Description

Summary/Objective

As a Junior Materials Engineer at Tempel, you will play a vital role in supporting material selection, testing, and evaluation processes to ensure the quality and performance of our products. Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to address materials-related challenges and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and product reliability.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in conducting material characterization, analysis, and testing to evaluate properties such as mechanical strength, electrical conductivity, and magnetic properties, using a variety of testing methods and equipment.
  • Support material selection and qualification processes for new product development initiatives, collaborating with cross functional teams to identify optimal materials for specific applications.
  • Assist in conducting failure analysis investigations to identify root causes of material-related issues or product failures, proposing corrective actions and preventive measures to improve product reliability.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of quality control procedures and specifications for incoming raw materials, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Assist in the development and validation of material models and simulations to predict material behavior under different operating conditions and inform design decisions.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in materials engineering or a related field, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Solid understanding of materials characterization techniques, including microscopy, spectroscopy, and mechanical testing methods.
  • Familiarity with material selection, qualification, and testing procedures, with experience in analyzing and interpreting test results.
  • Knowledge of materials processing techniques, such as heat treatment, forming, and surface treatment processes.

Work Environment

  • General office environment with some exposure to the factory environment.
