Description: What you'll be doing

Another Source's client, Cal Poly Humboldt, is recruiting a Residence Life Coordinator to join their Housing and Residence Life Team.

Live where you work! This is a professional, full-time, live-in position in Residence Life.

About the Role:

As the Residence Life Coordinator, you will be responsible for student, community, and social justice advocacy within the residence halls; comprehensive oversight of 4-12 student leaders, including one Student Assistant, and oversight for learning communities in the Housing & Residence Life areas. This position is responsible for the coordination of housing initiatives that foster curricular and co-curricular engagement for students living on campus. Involvement with professional associations, university committees, events, and functions is strongly encouraged and supported.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $55-58K annually

Key Responsibilities:

Student Staff Supervision and Community Development - 40%

    Hire and train Resident Advisors (RA), and Student Assistants (SA).
  • Plan and organize on-going staff training.
  • Create and oversee duty schedule.
  • Monitor job performance through weekly meetings. Conduct bi-annual student staff evaluations.
  • Implement Housing community development model in your area including program tracking and assessment.
  • Maintain budgets for staff and area councils.
  • Maintain a strong and visible community presence in respective areas.
  • Support the mission and goals of Residence Life.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to provide educational and community development programming in the halls.

Community Action Conference (Student Behavior Management) - 20%

  • Review and explain Housing and University policy.
  • Review Incident Reports. Hold Community Action Conference to determine responsibility in an incident and issue a finding. Complete documentation regarding Community Action Conference findings (letters, database, etc.)
  • Mediate high-level roommate conflicts

Professional Staff Team Member - 10%

  • Attend regular Residence Life Team meetings and Department meetings.
  • Develop, implement, and participate in professional development training.
  • Represent the Housing & Residence Life by serving on department and university wide committees.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for new team members.

Advise Student Groups - 5%

  • Advise area council and attend council meetings.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to volunteer student staff.
  • Meet regularly with the president and/or executive board of the council.

Resident Advocate - 5%

  • Facilitate problem solving meetings amongst residents.
  • Act as a resource and provide referrals as needed.
  • Provide academic advising and assistance.

Duty and Crisis Response - 5%

  • Respond to emergencies and other crises serving as the initial point of contact for emergency personnel.
  • Serve on call duty rotation providing regular updates regarding incidents that occur while serving on duty.

Oversee Facilities - 5%

  • Work with custodial, grounds, and maintenance staff to ensure a safe and clean-living area.
  • Follow-up on building damage issues as appropriate.

Administrative - 5%

  • Complete weekly and annual reports including all necessary budgetary paperwork.
  • Assist with the professional staff hiring process.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities listed above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs Administration, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, Sociology, Social Work or other related field.
  • Experience working with on-campus housing and advising special interest groups (non-traditional, cultural, LGBTQQIA, etc.)
  • Ability to speak Spanish.
