PURPOSE:

The Maintenance Manager reports to the Plant Manager and provides the necessary support to accomplish Maintenance Department objectives in the most safe, economical, and technically feasible manner. This position is responsible for all maintenance activities, including but not limited to the supervision of maintenance supervisors, maintenance planning and scheduling, productivity of the maintenance hourly workforce, management and selection of contractors, and maintenance activities in such a manner that high quality repairs are completed in a timely manner align with the plant's safety objectives.

KEY OBJECTIVES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures all work is performed safely and in accordance with all Calumet procedures.
  • Manages contractors working on-site for safety, effectiveness, quality, and cost.
  • Manages maintenance tasks to achieve high equipment uptime and integrity, with minimal re-work.
  • Efficiently utilizes the JD Edwards maintenance module including the timely closing out work orders, updating maintenance task routine, generating reports, etc.
  • Coordinates with engineering for routine work and projects, and interfaces with contractors.
  • Directs major equipment repairs, works with supervision to prioritize work in repair shops, selects and manages contractors and chosen vendors.
  • Monitors the condition of equipment in the plant in cooperation with the Operations and Technical groups to maintain reliable operations.
  • Establishes the performance standards for maintenance utilizing Key Performance Indicators (KPI's), develops the method of measurement, and provides timely and routine feedback to those responsible for the performance (performance management).
  • Interprets Process Flow Diagrams, and Process System Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs).
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings related to all site instruments, analyzers, and electrical equipment including electrical drawings and control system schematics.
  • Troubleshoots quality and process problems in collaboration with Operations Manager, Reliability Manager and Technical Manager, and others to ensure that all aspects of equipment operation and maintenance are managed.
  • Works with Electrical and Instrumentation Engineers to improve reliability and utilize new technology.
  • Performs field audits of work to ensure safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Learns and applies Calumet engineering standards, where applicable.
  • Possesses working knowledge of national codes/standards such as NEC, NESC, NFPA70, ISA and others.
  • Trains and coaches the maintenance personnel to evaluate and improve performance of the team in a continuous manner.
  • Ensures that plant maintenance personnel perform proper housekeeping.
  • Other activities as assigned by the Plant Manager and the Calumet Leadership Team.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

  • Flexible and willing to work as needed - including nights and weekends.
  • Ten or more years technical or craft experience (hands on) with I/E equipment in a chemical, or related industrial field and strong exposure to maintenance principles and practices with a minimum of three years demonstrated success in positions of progressive supervisory responsibility.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, with specialization in mechanical, instrument and/or electrical disciplines; or related field combined with minimum of five years of experience in an industrial setting with relevant supervisory experience.
  • Experience in process analyzers.
  • Working knowledge of DCS and PLC systems

COMPETENCIES:

  • Working knowledge of functions and design/operation of plant instruments and electrical equipment, process and products; methods development and procedures; industrial and personnel administration; labor relations; repair maintenance of instruments and electrical equipment; ability to prepare, administer, and monitor departmental budgets.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in field instrumentation including temperature, pressure, level, flow, and other field devices.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in rotating equipment, and fixed equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills, including oral, written, and electronic.
  • Extensive working knowledge of field maintenance processes in Instrumentation, Analyzers, Electrical and other I/E equipment in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and prioritize tasks with minimal direction or oversight. Knowledge of root cause analysis and very strong troubleshooting capability.
  • Proven safety experience, training and leadership including but not limited to: confined space, lock out tag out, hot work, safe work permits, personal protective equipment, and other critical safety procedures.
  • Ability to learn any potential new Engineering processes/systems and equipment quickly.
