What You'll Do in This Position

SRNS is seeking a Senior Level Analytical Scientist/Chemist with a broad range of experience (e.g. HPLC, GC-MC, ICP-MS, IR, etc.) to lead development and planning in the Savannah River Plutonium Production Facility's Waste Characterization and Diagnostics laboratory. This position will serve as team lead and play a primary role in the development and startup of new laboratories and methods required for this major new site mission. As one of the initial team members, you will have significant input into the lab's method development, operations, and future staffing.

Primary responsibilities include:
* Provides general subject matter expertise for key analytical methodologies (e.g. HPLC, GC-MC, ICP-MS, IR, etc.)
* Lead lab setup, instrumentation installations, and procedural development/certification efforts for the waste characterization team.
* Works with site leads to ensure timely support turnaround to allow larger efforts to continue advancing uninterrupted.
* Interface between various disciplines including program managers, project management, and engineering design authorities.
* Provides mentoring for less-experienced employees.
* Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems.

Define scope of technical programs and develop effective and efficient solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems. Routinely use the company's systems and meet all the company's requirements with little supervisory guidance. Assist in teaching newer professionals and guiding their efforts. Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning where only general objectives are stated. Coordinate various phases of the activity and perform development work in assigned field. Define specific problems based on general problem information from management and customers. Plan technical effort and coordinate activities with those of other divisions, departments and sections in focuses areas to solve problems. Ensure compliance with technical requirements of assigned work, proper utilization and training of personnel operating under one's technical guidance, and compliance with approved schedules and staffing estimates. Ensures appropriate technical performance of the end product developed and designed to resolve the original problem. Determine scheduling and staffing requirements for assigned tasks, in collaboration with management. Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects. Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues and management. Enhance expertise in field through participation in local technical societies. Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. Qualifications We Require

Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline

Other Qualifications

* Experience in a broad (multiple) analytical methodologies, including HPLC, GC-MC, ICP-MS, IR, etc.
* Experience in meticulous sample preparation for instrumental analytical analysis.
* Experience in laboratory team leadership
* Experience in laboratory design/standup supporting analytical data production efforts.
* Understanding of laboratory waste handling concepts, ideally with experience in radioactive waste generation.
* Experience with Laboratory Information Management System.
* B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Forensics, Environmental Sciences, or related field.

Qualifications We Desire

Graduate degree in Chemistry, Forensics, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
