Job Description

Summary: The Senior MCO, Live will manage multiple channel playout in accordance with EDM and Client standard operating procedures. They will provide training for new colleagues, sustainment training for the rest of the team and backfill supervisors when required.

The Senior Master Control Operator is responsible for monitoring all technical broadcast activity for their assigned networks during their shift. The Senior Master Control Operator fulfills the clients' monitoring of air, quality control of all programming broadcast elements and responsibility for editing the playlists for all stations, as well as the disaster recovery logs (E-list) within their assigned networks.Master Control Operators are also required to perform various responsibilities inherent to their assigned network, as well as cover other positions (including Supervisor) as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Operation of all facility Broadcast Operations equipment and systems.
  • Train new staff members and ensure they meet the required competency criteria.
  • Backfill supervisor when they are out of the office.
  • Serve as point person for shift responsibilities for MCO's.
  • Work with Supervisory team to create and update operating procedures
  • Responsible for mutli-transmission environment working across clients within a HUB.
  • Conduct first line discrepancy investigation, troubleshooting, escalation and reporting of service interruptions
  • Monitor multiple station feeds and maintain the on-air presence of the channels at all times.
  • Operation of live events in non-exclusive live environment
  • Coordinate activities between Broadcast Operations and Live Event site during the broadcast
  • Ensure network formats are followed (live events, syndicated programs, live network feeds)
  • Implement contingency plans for delays in live action, over runs, overlaps in events
  • Handle Special Reports and Breaking news across numerous markets
  • Ensure accurate and error-free integration of live programming and live cut-ins by working closely with in-house and remote production staff and AD's
  • Ensure elements including but not limited to billboard, sponsorship elements, tickers and lower thirds are executed properly on-air during live and non-live broadcast
  • Perform frequent checks to establish presence of audio, video, closed captioning and graphics. Log and escalate as appropriate.
  • Interact with the automation software, making changes to on air schedule when necessary to ensure continuity in the on air product
  • Communicate daily with client(s) to follow up on technical issues, missing materials or accommodate requests
  • Make any necessary changes to correct issues or replace missing materials (utilizing DOA tool)
  • Submit timely and accurate incident reports to track and escalate any impact to air.
  • Submit a shift report detailing on-air activity (errors or discrepancies encountered, etc.).
  • Ensure all media schedules, including E-lists, are prepared for playout and conform to specific client guidelines..
  • Resolve problems in a crisis situation, i.e., perform disaster recovery procedures minimizing impact to air.
  • Has the ability to cover all operational positions, providing coverage for Paid Time Off days, etc., when necessary.
  • Works a flexible schedule with shifting schedule as needed to cover vacation or high profile events.
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements:

  • Must have 3+ years' experience in the broadcast industry
  • College degree or technical school preferred
  • Excellent operational knowledge of transmission technologies
  • Ability to work well under pressure within a team environment and meet strict deadlines
  • Must have knowledge of video and audio signals
  • Must have a good working knowledge of computers and software systems
  • Must be detail oriented and able to manage multiple events simultaneously
  • Must be able to work in a team concept
  • Experience training colleagues.
  • Previous experience with client service preferred.
  • Experience with Grass Valley (ITX) automation preferred
  • Strong communications skills, written and oral.
  • Ability to read and understand technical operations manuals
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, overtime, and holidays.

Work Environment:

The nature of this position requires the employee to work in an administrative office environment. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds and be physically mobile, i.e. able to bend, lift, climb stairs, and transport items.
