Job Description & ResponsibilitiesThis Data Engineer position is a critical role within the company's corporate headquarters, working with the 35-person corporate team to support key strategic projects that drive value for the company. This position reports to the Senior Data Engineer and is part of a small technology team within the finance division, and also works closely with the IT, technology, and security division. This position will be involved in key strategic initiatives, primarily at first with the corporate business intelligence ("BI") system but also upcoming projects including a major ERP rollout, system integrations, data governance efforts, projects to infuse artificial intelligence ("AI") capabilities, and special ad hoc projects for other corporate divisions such as marketing and acquisitions.
The primary initial work effort for this position involves the corporate business intelligence system, which is a sophisticated data consolidation platform to extract and transform disparate transactional data from numerous business unit ERP systems. This BI software pulls sales and margin data from dissimilar source systems, enriches it with numerous dimensions, then stores it in a consolidated data warehouse. This data warehouse allows the corporate BI and Financial Planning and Analysis ("FP&A") teams to analyze and report on the health of the business and understand trends by line of business, location, customer, vertical market, etc. The data engineering team supports the finance organization as the main consumer of data from the BI platform, facilitating key analytics for presentation to the board of directors, executive leadership, and other stakeholders. The team additionally works closely with external developers to continually improve the custom built ETL tool which is the heart of the BI platform.
Beyond the BI system, the data engineering team is integral in helping the executive team with other key technology projects to manage the significant growth the company isexperiencing and facilitating strategic and tactical business improvements through reliable and timely data analytics. The Data Engineer will play a critical role in supporting those initiatives.Data Engineer Tasks
  • Develop ETL pipelines to integrate newly acquired companies into corporate reporting dataset
  • Identify errors in BI data compared to financial statements, and implement solutions to reconcile the two
  • Work closely with ETL tool development team to manage bug reporting, feature development, and platform deployment
  • Support strategic decisions related to all things data and analytics, long-term BI investments, and the toolsets that will support these new initiatives
  • Work with business unit IT leads to establish and maintain connectivity between local infrastructure and the corporate BI system
  • Define and uphold data quality and consistency standards through the BI pipeline from data source through final reporting product
  • Drive process improvements around the BI system, reporting deliverables, and consolidation of business unit technology platforms
  • Participate in other ad-hoc technology projects across the organization to support strategic initiatives
  • Travel with other team members to business unit offices to participate in new ERP system integrations into the BI platform
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Computer Science background a plus
  • Accounting or Finance experience a plus
  • 2+ years of data management experience a plus
  • Technical experience developing and maintaining ETL pipelines a plus
  • Proficiency with SQL required
  • Databricks/Spark experience a plus
  • AWS experience a plus
  • Scala or Python experience a plus
  • Good knowledge of standard concepts, best practices, and procedures within a data warehousing and business intelligence environment
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Willingness to travel 5-10%
