Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Heavy Rents and Used Equipment Business Manager. The Heavy Rents & Used Equipment Business Manager develops the business vision, strategy, and annual business plan. This leader will develop and manage a team or managers and individual contributors, to achieve results aligned with annual and multi-year business growth objectives and critical success factors. The individual in this role will interact frequently and have deep collaboration with the Machine Sales, Product Support Sales, Rental Sales, Asset Management, and Division Operations teams, and centralized Carter support teams such as Marketing, Business Intelligence, Dealer Transformation, Continuous Improvement, and Business Systems/IT. Seeking candidates with a minimum 10 years experience in the construction equipment industry and previous business development experience. Bachelor's degree (engineering and/or business related concentration preferred). Master's degree (desirable).

Requirements for the Heavy Rents & Used Equipment Business Manager include:
  • Attract, hire, develop, coach and performance manage and a team of Heavy Rents and Used Equipment professionals.
  • Thorough understanding of the construction equipment industry, used equipment business, and business development techniques.
  • Strong business acumen, including but not limited to budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting, business case development, and management of customer business agreements and terms and conditions.
  • Strong communication skills; verbal, written, as well as strong listening skills.
  • Working collaboratively across multiple teams; strategically focused on improvements to business models.
  • Conduct market research, benchmark, and create financial models and business cases.
  • Through servant leadership, leading and coaching a team that is reliant on each other and others outside of the team to succeed.
  • Customer experience and satisfaction orientation and ability to build strong internal/external relationships.
  • Working in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands. Requires strong organizational skills.
  • Strong PC skills and the ability to self-develop and adapt to changing technology.
  • Strong decision making capabilities.
  • Detail oriented, analytical and data driven.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Engage in effective and persuasive discussions on complex topics with peer managers, other Carter leaders, and Carter Executive Leadership.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Must be able to interpret an extensive variety of technical data relating to salary/budget and benefits administration.
  • Frequent travel is required - overnight or out town via car or airplane.

Physical requirements must be met for the Heavy Rents & Used Equipment Business Manager job, including the ability to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and /or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
