Overview

The Safety Specialist will work under the general direction of the Safety Manager and will be responsible for various clerical and records management duties, including entering, tracking, and reporting monthly training information and other safety-related information into spreadsheets and disseminating the information to management. They will play a vital role in implementing and maintaining safety protocols, procedures, and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.


The Safety Specialist will also complete various other clerical duties within the safety department such as filing, document preparation, inter-office communication, etc. They will assist with various safety department duties, including but not limited to accident investigations, accident prevention programs, and auditing of safety training and material.

Responsibilities
    Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety policies, procedures, and programs as required by corporate policy and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist with helping Team Members with injuries, including completing corresponding documentation and data entry into the injury tracking database.
  • Assist in the facilitation and documentation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly safety inspections.
    Assist in completing required medical testing for Team Members (e.g., pulmonary function, audiometric, team member physicals, tuberculosis testing, etc.).
  • Complete the assigned Health & Safety Program reviews as scheduled.
  • Based on the Quarterly Safety Inspections, will verify the completed actions from findings, monitor documents, and update database.
  • Complete daily walkthroughs of the facility (a minimum of one hour in duration) and email findings and observations to the Health and Safety Manager weekly.
  • Facilitate annual Safety Data Sheets review with Department Managers.
  • Assist in the completion of new hire training and random drug screenings.
  • Coordinate and facilitate new hire physicals with third-party medical clinics.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as required or assigned by the Safety Manager.
Qualifications

Candidates for the Safety Specialist position must:

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Have two (2) years of clerical or medical experience.
  • Have ability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift as assigned, and occasional overtime may be required.
  • Be proficient in the use of computer systems and communications.
  • Have an advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft programs (i.e.) MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Have a high degree of mental and visual attention to detail when reviewing regulatory documents.
  • Maintain confidentiality with personnel files and information.
  • Be able to respond to multiple priorities quickly and professionally.
  • Be a self-starter and work with minimum supervision.

Candidates for the Safety Specialist position should be able to demonstrate:

  • Ability and eagerness to be proficient with quality and meet prescribed production output objectives.
  • Ability to work in a foundry and support facilities environments, which can be hot and dirty.
  • Teamwork by helping and volunteering across a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and always follow all safety rules/procedures.
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality.
