Industrial Hygienist
The industrial hygienist will provide support to multiple worker operations and work in unison with other safety departments to identify, recognize, evaluate and control workplace exposures. The industrial hygienist will require working knowledge of ergonomics, chemicals, non-ionizing radiation, ventilation, thermal stress, and noise. Daily responsibilities include writing exposure assessments, sampling, managing hazardous cleanup, conducting periodic inspections, overseeing confined space entry, maintaining chemical inventory, managing hazardous waste, and providing safety review of documents and plans.
This position reports to the Sr Manager of Environmental Health & Safety Program.
Responsibilities
* Ensure that TerraPower safety requirements are implemented and are consistent with regulations
* Support day-to-day coordination of experiments, modifications and other lab activities, with utmost focus on safety
* Write scientifically and legally defensible exposure assessments to mitigate workplace hazards of new and existing projects.
* Provide industrial hygiene review of documents and work plans.
* Sample chemical and physical hazards.
* Assist with the management of hazardous waste.
* Approve incoming hazardous chemicals.
* Ensure operation and maintenance of testing instruments.
* Conduct respirator fit testing.
* Deliver safety training to increase knowledge of industrial hygiene.
* Provide oversite to hazardous waste cleanup.
* Conduct safety walkthroughs.
Key Qualifications and Skills
* B.S. in Industrial Hygiene, Environment Health and Safety, or related field and minimum 5 years relevant experience working as an industrial hygienist OR
M.S. Industrial Hygiene/Occupational Health or related field.
* Advanced understanding of 29 CFR 1910 &1926.
* Knowledge of 10CFR & 40CFR is a plus.
* Understanding of occupational exposure limits (ACGIH TLV, OSHA PEL).
* Familiar with common IH calculations is required.
* Ability to wear all levels of PPE.
* Effective written and verbal English communication skills.
* Can effectively work independently or as a team.
* The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
* Passion working in a fast-paced R&D environment and communicating with a wide variety of workers with different backgrounds and knowledge levels.

* Physical exertion and/or requirements: Working in PPE such as APR, supplied air, coveralls, booties, hard hats. Ability to safely lift up to 30+ pounds.
* Repetitive work: Prolonged
* Special Senses: Visual and audio focused work
* Work Conditions: Must be able to work in a laboratory or construction environment with changing temperatures. Stairs, typing/keyboard, standard and/or sitting working environment of >8 hrs./day
* Travel required 0-15%. May require travel to other states or sites.
* Demonstrated experience in working with safety regulations and processes
* Team oriented and capable of operating within a highly matrixed organization

Salary Range Level 9: $95,414 - $143,122
Salary Range Level 10: $109,446 - $164,169
*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 - 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary bands. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected candidate's qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
