Job Overview:

The job function of a coder includes interpreting a patient s medical record and assigning the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes per current coding guidelines, ICD-10-CM and CPT codes. Coders responsible for coding within the specified bill hold. Coder will abstract necessary transfer/statistical data per facility guidelines.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma
  • 2 years coding experience in medical records hospital setting

Preferred:

  • Certification/Licensure: CCS, CPC preferred

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift- 8:00am - 4:00pm

  • Monday-Friday
  • Full Time

Essential Functions:

  • Codes all diagnoses, treatments, and procedures according to the appropriate classification system for the category of patient encounter/M, ICD-10- CM, CPT. Maintains error rate <10%
  • Contacts physicians/other practitioners regarding cases lacking documentation for coding purposes
  • Responsible for maintaining/reconciling OP Coding work queues.
  • Assists internal requestors with assignment of codes
  • Performs coding/abstracting of OBV accounts on a timely basis to comply with the hospitals benchmark bill hold, charges OBS hours and performs Carve outs
  • Ensures OP DNFB is maintained at specified bill hold
  • Communicate errors/concerns to coding vendor to ensure accuracy of coding and adherence to Rahway policy and procedures.
  • CCA and Nthrive
  • Works appropriate Optimum OP bill hold queues , obs hours, BAM charges, Obs hours for IP accts.
  • Codes Wound care, RON and SDS/SDM accts
  • Cover Coding Coordinator duties when needed
  • Maintain 95% productivity rate
