JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

WEB DEVELOPER/ADMINISTRATOR

CHICAGO PUBLIC LIBRARY

Number of Positions: 1

Starting Salary: $86,520

Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner of Collections, Content and Access, this position designs, edits and maintains the web presence for the Chicago Public Library using content management software for the library website, blogs, events, apps, and marketing emails. Plans, directs, and prioritizes user and organizational needs and strategic vision for web content and design by evaluating usage and performance analytics, following industry trends, and seeking input from library users, staff, management, and vendors. Demonstrates commitment to inclusivity and user-centered service, advocates for and follows accessibility standards for images, video, and copy. Leads teams of site curators and bloggers from various library departments to develop editorial calendar and create engaging, timely content. Establishes and maintains content standards, including voice and tone guidelines, with a focus on taxonomies and search engine optimization (SEO). Writes copy and edits content for formatting, clarity, length, accessibility, reading level and consistency. Liaises with marketing and communications team and other content stakeholders. Oversees software-as-a-service (SAAS) agreements with vendors including monitoring performance and setting software development priorities. Backs up files from websites and modifies applications to provide for disaster recovery, assigns appropriate levels of access to staff, and performs testing and quality assurance of the department's website and its applications. Responsible for software troubleshooting, user acceptance and usability testing. Provides training for library staff and creates and maintains user manuals and other training and support tools. Exhibits self-motivation with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and manage changing priorities. Monitors trends in web development through continuing education and participation in professional conferences and workshops. Interprets library guidelines, procedures and practices for staff and patrons. Performs other duties as assigned.

LOCATION: HWLC 400 S. State St.

DAYS OFF: Two days off per week

SHIFT: Monday- Friday 9:00am-5:00pm

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of experience in developing and administering interactive websites using web programming or scripting languages.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in library and information sciences
  • Experience in public library and/or nonprofit setting
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with technical troubleshooting and assisting internal and external stakeholders
  • Writing or editing experience
  • Experience working collaboratively across departments towards shared goals
