Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Comprehensive Services Senior Specialist is to empower and support Oklahomans with disabilities and their families who opt for the Self-Directed Services option of Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS). The Senior Specialist will support the planning of direct service approaches for families as a part of the statewide human services delivery system. This professional will support the evolving needs of the DDS Self-Directed Services program, with a goal of program growth and sustainability. The Senior Specialist will serve as an internal cross-division liaison to support event planning and execution and the delivery of high-quality external communication with families. A strengths-based approach with knowledge of the social model of disability allows this professional to best serve families and ensure fidelity with professional partnerships and program outcomes.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and maintain a positive and effective relationship with service recipients, families, DDS staff, and other service providers, as needed.
  • Adhere to evidence based therapeutic and theoretical approaches to engage with families, including but not limited to person centered thinking and the social model of disability.
  • Knowledge of current state and local policies on disability services and available community resources.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and creative problem solving to meet the needs of the target population.
  • Establish robust communication opportunities to ensure program model fidelity.
  • Advocate and empower participants to increase self-sufficiency as they engage with DDS.
  • Administrate the planning and execution of events for families and vendors.
  • Serve as a liaison for cross division collaboration, i.e. Stratcom, Events and Logistics.
  • Prepare for and participate in multidisciplinary meetings and share insight on engagement themes with recipients and families.
  • Attend and participate in community events, meetings and training events.
  • Provide consultation, guidance and support to specialists in Manager's absence.
  • Contribute to other DDS and Comprehensives projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training

  • Bachelor's degree in human-services or a related field, required

Experience

  • 2+ years of experience with customer service with excellent communication skills, preferred
  • 2+ years of experience providing services to people with developmental disabilities, preferred
  • 2+ years of experience working in social services, child welfare or human services, preferred
  • 2+ years of experience coordinating experiences for individuals with disabilities and their families, preferred

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Should exhibit strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Able to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Should demonstrate ability to provide leadership in Manager's absence
  • The ability to operate data management systems and other computer software platforms such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to engage in public speaking with target audiences
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required

  • Must maintain accurate electronic and paper files and provide confidentiality as needed
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some weeknights and weekends.
  • Ability to travel within the OKC metro and other areas of the state
  • Occasional airline and overnight travel may be required for trainings and meetings
