Job Description
This jobs primarily processes Operating Room charges and implant charges and reconciles the implant(s) recorded on patient charts with vendor's invoice. Upon reconciliation of the implant, the Operating Room Charge Capture Analyst authorizes payment through the O.R. Materials Manager; reconciles OR charges in HIS, PMS and FMS systems and functions as the point person for Charge Audits and the charge resource for RNs, and manages and updates SIS database, including implants and supplies, and schedules all patients for surgery using the Surgery Information System. When scheduling cases, the Operating Room Charge Capture Analyst is knowledgeable about time and staffing constraints and surgeon's blocks, scheduling patients appropriately based on surgeon, case length, and day of week; coordinates surgical billing by verifying the accuracy of supply and personnel charges, correcting over and under charges and electronically transmitting the daily surgery charges and accurately enters highly technical surgical terminology.

Education

Required -High School diploma or equivalent


Work Experience

Required -5 yearsscheduling or charge capture experience in a Peri-operative Services setting utilizing multiple database systems

Preferred - Experience with medical terminology and use of Microsoft applications such as Word

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval ofrequired jobinformation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout required job processes.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently; ability to able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
  • Basic secretarial skills, including phone skills, filing, andproof reading.

Job Duties

  • Schedules patients using the Surgery Information System.
  • Processes charges using the Surgery Information System.
  • Exercises judgment and initiative, makes sound decisions, and sets priorities when performing job duties.
  • Communicates information to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Participates in self-development activities and maintains required technical skills, training and credentials.
  • Other related duties as required.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Mechanical lifting devices (carts, dollies, etc.) or team lifts should be utilized.
Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid.

There is no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
