Position Overview

Position Summary
The Associate/Assistant Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations will provide leadership, vision, and strategic planning for donor stewardship initiatives by building a comprehensive donor recognition program to strengthen existing constituent commitment to the university. The ADSDR will deepen existing and forge new relationships to build visibility, impact, and financial resources.

Nature of Work
This position will plan and execute strategic stewardship and cultivation initiatives, donor outreach and communications, donor recognition, and acknowledgments, as well as develop impact and endowment reports. This individual will serve as the liaison with senior leadership regarding donor gifts and developing stewardship plans for top donors. The ADSDR will have managerial oversight of the Community Force scholarship software and the scholarship award process. This position will be the primary resource for scholarship-related questions from gift officers, campus partners, students, and donors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of a comprehensive college-wide stewardship program with the purpose of proactively maintaining and deepening engagement with existing donors and volunteers.
  • Incorporating information from the Business Office, Advancement and Public Relations team, academic and athletics units, developing and executing impact reporting, including editing/writing copy, and staying abreast of industry trends on reporting. Conceptualize and execute creative, original, and impactful stewardship pieces, including digital reporting.
  • In collaboration with advancement leadership, help manage relationships with donors and constituents of the university; implement outreach and support to president, deans, and faculty to ensure philanthropic partner wishes are being met and to help inspire future giving.
  • Build and maintain a calendar of regularly scheduled activities to cultivate relationships using a variety of strategies, including impact reporting, phone contacts, and recognition society/ stewardship events.
  • Maintain all endowed and annual scholarship agreements, ensuring the accuracy of the "term sheet" associated with the agreement.
  • Guide Scholarship awards through Financial Aid to ensure their awarding on a timely basis.
  • Working closely with the Associate Vice President for Advancement and the Vice President of Advancement and Public Relations, develop a university-wide inventory of naming opportunities for highly visible or in-demand facilities, programs, and departments; Manage this inventory on an annual basis to ensure all naming rights requirements and approvals are achieved. Ensures philanthropic naming opportunities meet all required approvals as dictated by University policy.
  • Manage the Administrative oversight of Community Force Scholarship Software to ensure it is optimally configured to support efficient scholarship awarding and collection of student information. Interface with University IT to troubleshoot and update data integration with Banner. Maintain internal user manual.
  • The ADSDR will also share responsibility for managing the donor database by maintaining data integrity, reporting, and measuring outcomes of initiatives and programs. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Talent
  • High proficiency in MS Office Suite and general technological proficiency with project management software as well as database management
  • Familiarity with higher education advancement and stewardship.
  • Knowledge or experience working with donors and/or a high level of emotional intelligence and tact to anticipate philanthropic partner needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple time-sensitive tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Superb writing and storytelling skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and an interest in the impact of higher education on the lives of students and families.
  • Willingness to be a team player who can be responsive and equanimous in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential material.
  • Ability to assist a diverse student population in a positive and supportive manner.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, and project management skills.
  • Experience with planning and managing events is a plus.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Assistant Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations:
A bachelor's degree is required, with an emphasis in sales, marketing, persuasive writing, or fundraising preferred. Experience developing marketing materials and reports in a dynamic and collaborative environment is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of direct experience is required.
Associate Director of Stewardship and Donor Relations:
A bachelor's degree is required, with an emphasis in sales, marketing, persuasive writing, or fundraising preferred. Experience developing marketing materials and reports in a dynamic and collaborative environment is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of direct experience is required.
Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
Work is sedentary in nature and, at times, requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
