Job Description

General Summary of Position
Oversees the activities of the hospital's central supply personnel regarding stocking and furnishing of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in selecting, training, orienting, and assigning department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with office staff to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • Assists in the development of department goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Creates policies and procedures for inventory control and issuance of supplies and equipment.
  • Directs the requisitioning, sorting, labeling, and issuing of equipment.
  • Establishes and oversees methods for preparing, handling, and storing sterile equipment and materials.
  • Maintains inventory records and submits requisitions to ensure that adequate supply levels are kept on hand.
  • Oversees sterilization, assembly, and storage of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supervises the maintenance and preparation of records, files, and other documents.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required or
    • equivalent required and
    • Associate's degree in healthcare field preferred

    Experience

    • 3-4 years Supervisory experience in sterile processing required or
    • Experience with sterilizers, surgical instruments, medical supplies, linen utilization, preparation of various trays of instruments for surgical procedures. required
    • Equivalent sterile processing technician experience required and

    Licenses and Certifications

    • CRCST - Certified and Registered Central Service Technician CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification Upon Hire required or
    • CSPDT - Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) certification Upon Hire required and
    • Must maintain annual continuing education credits to maintain certification status. required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.
