Summary:

C6 is seeking a Microbiologist II.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

    Record, analyze and interpret laboratory data and ensure data is recorded accurately in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Assist with procedures to collect data, in consultation with activity lead adjusts methods and procedures as appropriate during supporting the general duties within the lab.
  • Identify and carry out guidelines and regulations related to proper handling and storage of various biological materials.
  • Record quality results in accordance with established procedures and maintain complete, detailed records of all work performed.
  • Asist with administrative work related to customer requests and laboratory needs.
  • Prepare, ship and track materials for customers.
  • Perform tasks that support general laboratory needs (preparation of microbiological media and standard solutions, sterilization of materials)
  • Perform microbial characterization (gram stain, phenotypic testing and colonial morphology, use of commercial identification systems (e.g. MALDI-TOF, Vitek).
  • Assist in day-to-day maintenance in the laboratory; ensure adequate inventory of all the supplies necessary to run the lab efficiently.
  • Assist with equipment cleaning, maintenance, calibration, and general laboratory housekeeping.
  • Document work in a clear and organized manner.
  • Perform PCR to determine mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance of bacterial isolates; perform antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
  • Prepare large numbers of aliquoted specimens to be subsequently shipped to customers.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance measures to assure that analytical methods are under control.
  • Conduct and maintain chemical inventory for branch laboratories.
  • Assist with safety inspections and waste management as a member of the Safety Committee.
  • Enhance capacity to utilize a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for data entry and other computer operations.
  • Provide on-going instruction, and training to new laboratory personnel.
  • Perform quality control testing of in house and commercially prepared media.
  • Research, develop and continuously optimize workflows in data management using visualization and tracking software in lab processes.
  • Evaluate experimental data quality, reduce lab process cycle times by customizing laboratory automation technologies used in AR Bank aliquot preparation.
  • Monitor database files and/or assist in software testing.
Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Skilled in microbiological aseptic techniques.
  • Able to work well in a team and to manage a high throughput workload.
  • Detail oriented with strong documentation skills.
  • Enthusiastically serves customers and represents the laboratory well professionally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software (e.g. Word, Excel).
  • Must be committed to continuous improvement.
  • Good verbal & written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related field.
  • Must have some hands-on laboratory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with antimicrobial susceptibility testing, laboratory microbial identification and isolate work-up.
  • Experience handling bacterial and yeast cultures.
