Position Summary: The Court Care Site Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations and activities of a childcare center, ensuring the provision of high-quality care, education, and a safe environment for children. In addition to providing leadership and guidance to staff and volunteers, the Supervisor plays a crucial role in maintaining a positive and nurturing learning environment that supports children's development and fosters their natural curiosity. The Site Supervisor provides leadership and training to staff and volunteers in the drop-in child center for visitors to the courthouse. Responsibilities also include daily care and education of the children and initiating and providing guidance that fosters positive behavior. The Site Supervisor is required to possess a strong understanding of child development and early childhood education practices, as well as the ability to design and deliver engaging activities that support program objectives. The Site Supervisor must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as they will be working closely with young children, their families, and other staff. They should be able to establish a positive and nurturing learning environment that encourages children's natural curiosity and love of learning.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred or equivalent experience in the childcare industry.
  • Minimum 3 years of full-time work experience in a certified preschool childcare center or comparable group childcare program.
  • At least one year of training and/or experience in management and supervision of adults; and either have knowledge of child development for the primary ages served in the center, as evidenced by a combination of professional references, education, experience, or training; or Documentation of attaining at least step nine in the Oregon Registry
  • Extensive knowledge of child development principles, early childhood education practices, and behavior management strategies.
  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a childcare or early learning setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with children, families, and staff.
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities, including record-keeping, budget management, and resource planning.
  • Familiarity with local licensing regulations and compliance standards for childcare centers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Ability to track data and create reports.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • This position requires current enrollment in the Oregon State Employment Department, Child Care Division, Criminal History Registry.
  • An active driver's license, current insurance, reliable vehicle, and ability to pass our insurer's driving standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Court Care activities and staff, following established rules and regulations of VOA Oregon and regulating bodies.
  • Provide training and development for staff and volunteers, fostering growth and learning opportunities.
  • Provide consistent, reflective, goal-oriented, and strengths-based supervision to the staff members.
  • Create and nurture a culturally competent and supportive environment for both the staff and the clients.
  • Cultivate a high level of morale at the Court Care center through enthusiastic, positive, and responsive leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director on program decisions, while also possessing the competence to make independent decisions in the absence of immediate supervision.
  • Provide and lead the daily care and education of the children as well as initiate and foster positive guidance and behavior.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Services Director to ensure volunteers are actively involved and placed in suitable roles, provided with appropriate training, and adequately supervised.
  • Create a positive learning environment that fosters creativity, exploration, and independence.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment that is conducive to learning and exploration.
  • Model behavior and provide training and feedback to establish positive morale among staff and a welcoming, calm environment for children.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate program activities that engage the interest and developmental level of the children.
  • Ensure children are supervised at all times and are involved in safe appropriate activities.
  • Collaborate with Program Director to create and implement program policies and procedures.
  • Interact in a highly professional and collaborative manner with program partners.
  • Various administrative tasks (i.e.: answering phones, database management, registering and enrolling new families, etc.).

Other duties:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Program Director.

Supervisory: This position is responsible for supervising up to one employee. Also responsible for volunteer supervision.

Schedule: This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm.

Work Environment: Work is performed in a licensed childcare facility with moderate light and intermediate sound. Travels locally to events and meetings.
