Job Description

Parametrix, a premier engineering, planning, and environmental sciences consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Wetland Scientist to join our Seattle, Washington location. The role would be in primary support of the Greater Washington region and could include travel to other western US locations. You will lead field surveys, data analysis, and reporting related to wetlands and regulated waters, threatened and endangered species, and fish and wildlife in support of permitting for a variety of transportation and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be able to manage projects and support a senior project manager leading tasks on large wetland, aquatic, and plant/wildlife resources projects.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide project management and technical oversight for wetland delineations, stream ordinary high water mark determinations, and wildlife surveys.
  • Perform QC of data related to field surveys, critical area reports, and biological assessments.
  • Lead preparation of permit applications and regulatory compliance documents primarily for Clean Water Act Section 404, Endangered Species Act Section 7, and state and local natural resource and critical area codes.
  • Manage scope and budget requirements, oversee schedules, and lead project team coordination.
  • Support business development by identifying potential new clients and pursuits.

We are seeking highly motivated candidates with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, agency staff, and co-workers. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, or related discipline with 6+ years of demonstrated experience in the Pacific Northwest conducting wetland and biological fieldwork, preparing natural resource permit applications, and technical report preparation. Familiarity with the flora, fauna, soils, and aquatic ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest is required. Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification is required. A working knowledge of Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and state/local wetlands and natural resource regulations in Washington is required. Strong technical writing, interpersonal and oral communication, and computer software skills are required.

Biological Assessment author certification with WSDOT, completion of a wetland certificate program through University of Washington or Portland State University, and/or equivalent trainings, are highly preferred.

GPS/ARC GIS experience is a strong plus.

Additional requirements include a strong ability to organize, implement, and track schedules for projects. The job may require work in varied locations throughout the Western US; ability to travel to work sites and manage/conduct fieldwork; and the ability to work independently. Fieldwork may require heavy manual labor including navigation through heavy brush; digging soil pits; travel on uneven terrain in muddy and flooded conditions; and fieldwork in all weather.

Base salary for this position is in the range of $85,000-$115,000. Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, location, and role. For all positions, we conduct an equity review. Employee-owners are all eligible for performance-based bonuses based on key contributions. Salaries are reviewed at least once annually as part of our compensation program.
