Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Intern Liaison HR Specialist in HR Business Partners organization. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located on site in Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. Remote or Hybrid work opportunities may be available for this position. This position is instrumental in supporting the HR-related activities for a vibrant community of interns, faculty researchers, and others in related programs. Maintain relationships across the laboratory to ensure the success of this important segment of our workforce by providing consistent, aligned HR support. This position reports to the Direct of HR Business Partners.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Serve as a first point of contact for management, mentors, and interns for Human Resources (HR) questions. Provide a high level of service for all HR functions.
  • Guide and advise managers and mentors on intern employee lifecycle strategies and experiences.
  • Provide oversight for intern-related HR data and maintain HR data in systems to accurately reflect appointment details.
  • Act as primary contact to facilitate internship extensions.
  • Review and determine pay progression for interns with the assistance of compensation.
  • Interpret laboratory policy and guide management, mentors, and interns on appropriate application of that policy for the intern population.
  • Provide general oversight of HR processes for internship and related programs. Identify and facilitate implementation of solutions to issues ranging from routine to high complexity.
  • Maintain an active presence with INL's intern population from beginning to end of appointment. Attend onboarding activities, engage in enrichment opportunities in partnership with Research Excellence, and visit staff work locations.
  • Partner closely with multiple other functions to equip consistent support and alignment across the program landscape. Key partnering functions include but are not limited to: Talent Acquisition (TA), Total Rewards, organizational HR Business Partners and HR Generalists, Research Excellence, Onboarding, and Inclusion & Diversity.
  • Make recommendations to HR processes and strategy to enhance intern experience and outcomes. Ensure HR processes contribute to enhance the internship program's effectiveness as a pipeline for future INL staff.
  • Intake, counsel, guide, and facilitate appropriate actions for employee relations concerns. Facilitate engagement with other parties (HRBP, internal investigations, organizational leadership, Legal, etc.), as appropriate.
  • Align with organization-specific HR support to develop, counsel, coach, and train managers and mentors on talent management functions such as employee development planning, succession planning, low performer management, and use of developmental tools.
  • Leverage understanding of mission requirements to educate and equip partners to ensure deep, inclusive talent pipelines to support mission requirements.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management, business management, or another related degree from an accredited university plus 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience includes professional experience as an HR generalist or a combination of other HR-related disciplines.
  • Requires a basic understanding of human resources laws and regulations (i.e., FMLA, ADA, etc.).

Preferred

  • SHRM Certification.
  • Experience in government-owned or run facility.
  • Experience supporting internship or similar pipeline programs.
Job Information:
  • The pay range for this position is $$75,804.00min - $$155,496.00 max. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
