Teacher's Assistant - Central Campus
PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assist in educating young children ages six weeks to five years utilizing current child development theories and practices. Helps establish a culture to support learning and sustain an environment which promotes the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of children.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists in developing education curriculum and providing stimulating and developmentally appropriate activities which support the developmental level of each child.
- Observes, maintains documentation through anecdotal records, assesses children's development, and assists in creating individualized lesson plans to meet those needs.
- Employs verbal and written communication to convey essential information to parents, students and colleagues.
- Works in collaboration with the Child Development/Early Childhood Education Department.
Additional Job Functions:
- Maintains a safe environment by daily inspections of classrooms and playground.
- Inventories and identifies necessary material and supplies for classrooms.
- Assumes the duties of teacher as needed.
- Attends community functions, building a partnership with children and families.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of child development theories and practices based on the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
- Knowledge of Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP)
- Knowledge of child care minimum standards of Texas
- Knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for children entering the public-school system
- Knowledge of resources within the community to accommodate the needs of children and families
- Knowledge of anti-bias curriculum and multicultural education
- Ability to demonstrate the College values
- Ability to pass a background check with fingerprint identification and a TB test
- Ability to prepare individualized lesson plans to meet the developmental needs of each child in all areas of development including essential academic knowledge and skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain a rapport with parents and students by counseling, consulting and educating.
- Ability to create a positive, hospitable environment which promotes collaboration between the laboratory school and families.
Required Education:
- CDA in Early Childhood or 12 college hours in Early Childhood, Child Development, Elementary Education, or Early Childhood Special Education
Preferred Education:
- AAS or AA in Early Childhood or related field.
Required Experience:
- One year of experience in an early childhood setting
Preferred Experience:
- Two years of experience in an early childhood setting
Required Licenses/Certifications (within the first two weeks of employment):
- Current Adult, Child, and Pediatric AED/CPR/First Aid Certificate
- Food Handler Certificate
Note: The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.
Salary Grade: 101
