Summary

The Stationary Engineer must have a good mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance. Must have knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, there interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, and sub -atomic structures and processes.

*Please Note: This position is contingent upon a contract award. We will not be actively responding to applicants until there is a need to move forward with this position.

The pay rate for this position is $37.56/hour + $4.57/hour H&W.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to)

  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment and determines when and what kind of maintenance is needed. They are in full charge of controlling operations of equipment or systems; watches gauges, dials or other indicators to make sure the machine is working properly.
  • Determine causes of operating errors and decide what to do about it. They conduct tests and inspections of products, services or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and be able to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment - services, repairs, adjusts, and tests machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical not electronic principles.
  • Controlling machines and processes - uses either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes, not including computers or vehicles.
  • Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials - must inspect equipment, structures or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
  • Monitor processes, materials, or surroundings - monitors and reviews information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management and/or supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 3-5 years' experience installing, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing boilers.
  • Ability to read and interpret system and equipment plans, specifications, operating manuals.
  • Must be able to understand and operate machines and electronic and computer controls.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and present information and respond to questions from vendors, customers, management, and others in a professional and timely manner.
  • Have a good working knowledge of computer applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must have strong organizational skills.
  • Must be capable of lifting to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to pass DOT substance testing and/or security clearance investigation
  • Must be able to pass required criminal background check and pass pre- employment drug testing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures

Physical Demands

  • Work involves moderate to heavy work in all types of conditions. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the workday. Considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling and crouching may be required

  • Work may be performed in indoor and outdoor locations. May be subject to confined spaces and subject to changes in temperature and weather conditions.

Work Schedule: 40 hours per week. Some overtime may be required
