Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides Information Literacy services to the college and community. Duties include: identifying library needs; selecting information sources offering instructional support; producing online, print, and audio-visual materials; conducting sessions in collaboration with faculty members; locating and circulating library materials, including sources from other libraries.

  • Manages the Library's collection of print, audio-visual, and electronic resources including print, audio-visual, and electronic materials selection using reviews, patron input, and statistical analysis; maintains the currency of library collection; assigns call numbers and subject headings using the Dewey Decimal System; checks for missing and inaccurate records.

  • Assists with planning and assessing Library activities including budget fund allocations; expense recording; budget forecasts; assisting in grant research and writing to fund Library programs and resources; provides in-service training sessions for Library staff.

  • Works with others to provide services and improve communication including team collaboration; college governance and committee participation; recruiting faculty liaisons to provide feedback to the Library on materials, policies, and initiatives; review and enforces Library procedures; hires, trains, and directs student workers to perform non-professional Library duties.

  • Keeps current on professional trends by conference and professional organization participation.

  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the division.

Qualifications


Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.


Required Education: Master's degree in Library or Information Science from an institution of higher education accredited by the American Library Association.

Required Experience: Two (2) years of occupational experience in an academic library preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of library science.
  • Knowledge of the Dewey decimal classification; Library of Congress subject headings and Anglo-American Cataloging Rules 2 (AACR2).
  • Working knowledge of college supported computer operating systems, application software, and hardware.
Skills
  • Proven customer-service skills and ability to work with a diversity of patrons.
  • Demonstrated ability to locate and evaluate information in a variety of mediums.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and software specific to the position, including spreadsheets and the Internet.
Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain effective work relationships with peers, students, teachers, staff, representatives of outside agencies, educational institutions, and the general public.
  • Ability to convey an image of professionalism and dedication in work-related activities.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse student and employee populations.
  • Ability to work successfully with minimal supervision and to provide a leadership role to others.
  • Ability to establish workflows, manage multiple projects, and meet necessary deadlines.

Physical Demands
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs. and ability pull up to 50 lbs.
Ability to climb stairs and a ladder and maintain balance.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of time spent sitting, 25% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.

Supplemental Information


Hours Up to 19 hours per week. Must have the flexibility to travel to all campus locations. Evening hours and at least two nights per week is preferred.

Salary Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2023/2024 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
