THE POSITION

Are you a trained automotive mechanic who takes pride in your work? Whether you are at the beginning of your career or have been in the industry for years, the Pennsylvania State Police would like to talk to you. We are searching for an Automotive Mechanic who is interested in a rewarding career with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In this position, you perform automotive mechanic work in the maintenance and repair of State Police vehicles, equipment, and parts. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

An Automotive Mechanic performs repair and replacement of suspension components such as ball joints, control arms, idler arms, pitman arms, and wheel bearings. You also perform repair and replacement of brake systems, disc brakes, drum brakes, calipers, cylinders, and fittings; perform maintenance and replacement of electrical systems, alternators, batteries, ignitions and ignition; and perform maintenance and replacement of cooling system components, hoses, belts, fans, and water pumps. In addition, you perform major and minor engine repairs, including replacement of camshafts, bearings, pistons, oil pumps, and engine overhauls; and perform repair and replacement of fuel systems, exhaust systems, transmissions, and differentials.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C driver's license.
  • This position requires a valid Class 1 PA Inspection Mechanic Certificate.


Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • This position requires a valid Pennsylvania Emission Inspection License. Attainment of this license can be achieved during the probationary period. Failure to obtain a valid Pennsylvania Emission Inspection License will result in the employee's removal from the position.
