I. POSITION SUMMARY
This position is a casual position responsible for assisting the Captain of the Forts Ferry in the operation of the vessel and related equipment in accordance with the Port Captain's instructions. Work is performed indoors/outdoors and can be in any weather condition. Work schedules can be modified to fit the departmental needs which may require the employee to work shift work and/or weekends. This casual position is part-time with no guaranteed minimum number of hours, nor are there any guaranteed assignments.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Deckhand must have the physical capability to tie up the vessel at each berth. He/she will greet passengers on and off of the vessel and assist them if needed. He/she will collect tickets from the passengers and bring them to the bridge once the vessel gets underway. Once underway, the deckhand will demonstrate to the passengers how to properly don a personal flotation device.
III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
* Handling mooring and heaving lines * Ability to traverse inclined and vertical ladders and ramps * Confidence and ability to work with and around rotating machinery, and close to the water's edge * Provides the highest level of customer service and professionalism to all internal and external customers

* Deck, voids, engine room and bridge of vessel
V. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES
* Valid driver's license
VI. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* Must be at least 18 years old * High school diploma or equivalency or equivalent related experience * Experience working on or around boats and docks preferred
VII. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
* Subject to a background investigation * Subject to applicable drug testing regulations * Delaware River and Bay Authority requires all employees to have direct deposit with a financial institution or enroll in the payroll card program to receive their bi-weekly pay
