Job Summary

Provides all benefits related services to FIU community. Serves as liaison with benefits providers; addresses any issues associated with Benefits. Processes employee benefits related enrollment, payroll deductions and reconciliation.

  • Assists individuals on benefits plans, polices, payroll deductions related issues; processing enrollment/changes/termination of Benefits plans, certifying and attesting to enrollment in compliance with regulations/requirements. Acts as a point of contact with People First, State Benefits Administrator, Division of Management Services, and the Division of Retirement.
  • Reviews interface reports between People Soft system and State Benefits Administrator to ensure accuracy of employee benefit records and transactions. Audits employee benefits enrollments and plan changes; validates employee benefits eligibility, payment and deduction history/information and manages timely payment of respective employer premiums to prevent lapse in benefits coverage.
  • Processes data entry such as payroll deductions and contributions into the financial system for transmittal of employee's premiums. Requests refunds as required. Performs timely payroll related functions and calculations associated with internal/external vendors including electronic transmission and uploads and audits.
  • Manages FIU employee perks and services program which includes searching for and engaging new vendors, establishing partnerships, and exploring new opportunities. Manages the communication for employee perks including website maintenance and FIU community.
  • Assists with the open enrollment process by coordinating and assisting in budgeting, planning, and execution of annual State Benefits Fair event and benefits open enrollment with university internal/external and State contracted vendors for all employees.
  • Prepares and coordinates workshops/meeting sessions designed to help employees obtain information and understand state and university benefits and other related programs.
  • Maintains compliance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by proactively running biweekly benefit eligibility reports from State Administrator and sending electronic notifications to eligible temporary employees advising on their benefits options.
  • Ensure employees' benefits enrollment complies with the State regulation.
  • Assists in preparing, composing, and proofreading university wide memorandum, newsletter communications, presentations related to benefits policy/procedure changes and notifications. Maintains the general department's email inbox and calendar as well as arranges and organizes meetings and conferences for the department as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
  • Serves as backup for Workers' Compensation process.
  • Serves as backup for employee leave of absence matters. Serves as liaison between the employee on leave of absence and the University for matters related to continuation of insurance coverage and premiums.
  • Processes employee and former employees' retirement termination/loan/distribution requests.
  • Provides retirement services for BBC, Wolfsonian and Pine Center
  • Performs other related duties as required and deemed appropriate to the accomplishment of the responsibilities and functions of the department. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and one (1) year of professional benefits or other HR related experience.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in accounting, finance, payroll, or benefits administration.
