POSITION SUMMARY

The Director will serve as the leader of the Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME). Responsible for developing and executing strategy for enhancement of high-quality GME programs. Works closely with UT Southwestern faculty, administration, and staff across the institution to ensure effective GME operations and achieve UT Southwestern's academic objectives. Primarily reports to the Vice President, Academic and Business Operations and Associate Dean, Graduate Medical Education.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field required
  • Eight (8) years related experience in administration of graduate medical education programs
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Thorough understanding of ACGME accreditation processes with demonstrated expertise of GME operations at large academic medical centers.
  • Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources or his/her designee.

PREFERRED

  • Master's degree in relevant field preferred
  • TAGME certified

JOB DUTIES

  • Provides administrative, financial, and operational leadership of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) organization and holds broad responsibilities encompassing all aspects of postgraduate medical education training supporting:
    • Curriculum and evaluation
    • Supervision of residents and fellows
    • Collaboration with faculty teachers, mentors, advisors, etc.
    • Program management
  • Serves as a strategic advisor to the Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education and ACGME designated institutional official (DIO) which monitors compliance with ACGME requirements to ensure continued ACGME accreditation.
  • Develops and maintains operational relationships with external affiliates (e.g. Parkland, Children's, etc.)
  • Provides program support for the development and improvement of GME programs and assist with securing resources to meet the mission, vision, and goals of the program and institution.
  • Coordinates departmental relationships with Chairs, department administrators, and program directors.
  • Implements strategies to increase effectiveness and retention of GME Program Coordinators and other GME personnel.
  • Responsible for the monitoring and reporting of GME activities to ensure adherence to affiliation agreements with academic partners across the region.
  • Accountable for the annual budget and monitoring monthly expenditures.
  • Provides leadership and participates in national and local GME educational opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
