Key Responsibilities:

  • Support High-Level Defense Policy: Provide essential support to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness, Force Safety, and Occupational Health (FSOH).
  • Strategic Plan Development: Assist with the development and execution of the DoD Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Strategic Plan and the FSOH Strategic Plan.
  • Policy Analysis and Input: Contribute to the analysis of occupational and environmental health and safety policy and performance. Provide DoD technical input to policy formulation.
  • Content Creation: Draft content for DoD issuances, including Directives, Instructions, Manuals, and Memoranda.
  • Data Analysis and Presentation: Conduct analysis of integrated safety and health information using the Force Risk Reduction (FR2) Tool and other data sources. Present findings clearly and effectively to both senior DoD leaders and lay audiences, ensuring actionable insights.
  • Information Compilation: Support the compilation of SOH and mishap data. Draft briefings, papers, and other documents on SOH topics for senior DoD leaders.
  • Inquiry Responses: Assist with preparing responses to inquiries from Congress, the Inspector General, the Government Accountability Office, the media, and other entities related to operational safety.
  • Meeting Support: Provide support and assist with the development of materials and briefings for high-level meetings, including the Deputy's Workforce Council (DWC), the Joint Safety Council (JSC), the Defense Safety Oversight Council (DSOC), and the Safety and Occupational Health Committee (SOHC).
  • Collaboration with Acquisition Community: Organize and engage in FSOH collaboration with the DoD acquisition community to improve readiness and availability of military and civilian workforces. Influence acquisition policies, procedures, and standards to address safety requirements for aviation, weapon systems, and human integration systems.
  • Basic Qualifications

    • Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) in a related field with 10 years of relevant experience, Master's degree with 8 years of experience,
    • Experience:
      • Minimum 10 years' directly related experience and subject matter knowledge of DoD operational safety/DoD mishap data and information/data analysis.
      • Experience working with and developing strategic level plans and policies.
      • Experience facilitating and participating in strategic level technical meetings and gatherings with Federal agency partners, Federal regulatory agencies, and technical subject matter experts.
      • Working understanding of the Pentagon and the Office of Secretary of Defense roles.
      • Familiarity with Correspondence and Task Management System (CATMS).
    • Skills:
      • Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills with all levels of staff throughout the DoD.
      • Proven ability to communicate technical information effectively to non-technical professionals.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Additional Experience:
      • Experience working directly with DoD senior executive leadership within the Pentagon.
      • DoD leadership experience as an officer at 06 or GS-15 level.
