Leidos, is currently seeking an individual to serve as an ATF Compliance Specialist to work in our Huntsville, Alabama office. This position will provide regulatory and audit support to various Leidos projects and programs who must engage in the acquisition, manufacture, and disposition of articles regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain current ATF licenses and work with a wide array of Leidos business functions, as well as the ATF Federal Explosives and Firearms Licensing Centers to ensure timely renewal of licenses.
  • As directed, lead new Leidos programs through the ATF license application process if deemed necessary by program activity and location.
  • Assist programs in understanding ATF regulations as they pertain to the program's contract and deliverables.
  • Periodically, review programs current activity to ensure all necessary ATF procedures are being utilized.
  • Work with site specific responsible persons on ATF licenses to schedule and execute mock ATF compliance inspections, and internal site surveys. Once complete, log findings and work with ATF program and site leadership to identify and execute containment, corrective actions and effectiveness verifications.
  • Conduct deep dive research into ATF regulations and draft variance requests to the ATF for suggested alternative procedures to meet requirements.
  • Monitor escalations provided by program personnel and address such issues in a timely manner providing necessary guidance or escalation paths.
  • Assist ATF compliance program leadership in maintaining metrics, noting any trends at a site or program wide level and escalating findings to leadership.
  • Submit ATF forms 6 and 6a as required by 27 CFR 447 and forms 2, 3, 5 and 9 prescribed in 27 CFR 449. Ensure serial number verifications are completed prior to form submission as annotated in applicable procedures.
  • Assist ATF program leadership in serving as a liaison between ATF and Leidos during on site ATF compliance inspections.
  • Provide trainings in ATF firearm and explosive recordkeeping and compliance program overviews as directed by ATF program leadership.
  • Must be able to read and interpret procedures, work instructions, drawings, assembly schematics, and specifications.
  • Must possess exceptional communication skills for effective collaboration with diverse teams.

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate should have a Bachelors degree and 2 - 4 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Candidate must understand the following regulations:
    • 27 CFR 447- Importation of Arms, Ammunition & Implements of War
    • 27 CFR 478- Commerce in Firearms & Ammunition
    • 27 CFR 479- Machine Guns, Destructive Devices & Certain Other Firearms
    • 27 CFR 555- Commerce in Explosives
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to train others.
  • Experience in internal audit practices with knowledge of root cause and corrective actions.
  • Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft office products.
  • Candidate must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
  • Some travel may be required, typically no more than 25%

Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance

Pay Range:Pay Range $55,250.00 - $99,875.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline onlyand not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
