Job Description

General Summary:

UMass Boston Ombuds Services is looking for a graduate employee to support the activities of the office with a focus on undergraduate student outreach and assistance.

Ombuds Services is a confidential resource for any UMass Boston community member experiencing a university-related problem, conflict, or concern. The Ombuds can help individuals think through complex issues, understand their options, and consider next steps. Where appropriate the Ombuds can provide practical assistance toward a resolution. As a confidential, informal, impartial, and independent third party, the Ombuds is unbiased and "off-the-record." Using Ombuds Services is always voluntary and free of charge. Examples of Duties:

Ombuds Services needs support with the following:

  • outreach activities including social media, tabling, postering, info sessions, etc.
  • developing and compiling student-focused resources
  • assisting with workshops and presentations
  • providing assistance to undergraduate students in accordance with the ombuds standards of confidentiality, informality, impartiality, and independence.

Qualifications:

The candidate must be enrolled as a graduate student in a relevant major (Conflict Resolution, Higher Education, Counseling, or similar). Applicants should have strong organizational and interpersonal skills and experience supporting undergraduate students in a higher education setting. Knowledge and aptitude with social media is appreciated.

In the cover letter, applicants should explain why they would like to serve in this role, their qualifications for serving in the role, and their expectations for how this role connects with their current and future career aspirations. Salary Range: 25/hr

Hours: 8 hrs per week

This is a non-union position.
