Reporting to the campus Advent Health Dean of Nursing, the primary role of this position is to provide college level instruction and instruction-related activities designed to encourage, support, and enable students' success. This position will be responsible for direct instruction, assessment of student performance, curriculum design, preparation of course-related materials, selection of textbooks and other course-related materials, maintenance of class records, reporting on student performance and other duties typically and traditionally associated with college faculty positions. This position will work in a clinical setting, either off-campus in the hospitals or on-campus in the simulation/nursing labs.

Essential Functions/Duties

  • Teach courses objectives in accordance with published course descriptions, schedules, procedures, and course outlines furnished students.
  • Manage students in a clinical setting (hospital or lab) by assisting with scheduling, skill development/testing, setting up lab equipment, facilitating directives with other faculty/staff or hospital personnel, etc.
  • Develop departmental goals and plans of action to achieve them.
  • Provide input and work with other faculty and staff to review, produce and/or select course-related materials.
  • Conduct on-going evaluation of student progress and maintain records of student course/class performance.
  • Prepare and submit grade reports and other reports on student performance as may be scheduled or required.
  • Organize class activities, relating them to the overall objectives of the course.
  • Work with the Advent Health Dean of Nursing and other faculty and staff as appropriate to assess and modify as needed course and program goals, objectives, methods and content.
  • Participate in the shared decision-making processes.
  • Serve on at least one of the College's standing committees, or on an officially established work group or ad hoc committee each year in the spirit of professional responsibility.
  • Serve as a resource in identification and recruitment of faculty and staff, both adjunct and full-time. Supervise student learning and other activities as assigned and appropriate in classroom, laboratory, studio, clinical site and/or other areas such activities may occur.
  • Exercise due care that College equipment/materials entrusted to his/her care is not abused by students and is used safely and in such fashion as to constitute no threat to life, health or property. Participate in class schedule development working with other faculty members, and with others as appropriate.
  • Serve as mentor for new or adjunct instructor when appointed.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of annual and other strategic plans and documents.
  • Serve as resource for project/grant development implementation and evaluation, and for advisory committees.
  • Participate in the assessment of personal professional and institutional effectiveness as prescribed in DBOT Rule and College Procedure.
Required Skills
  • Extensive knowledge of the subject area(s) in which the individual is responsible for instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and of effective instruction.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of community college students.
  • Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of division, College and State rules, regulations, and practices as they impact faculty, students, and instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, and orally with a variety of audiences in a variety of settings, as both "sender" and "receiver".
  • Ability to function independently and as a team member to accept responsibility for completing or implementing designated tasks or activities.
  • Ability to serve as a mentor for professional peers.
  • Ability to make and to communicate effectively evaluative judgments about student performance.
  • Ability to make professional judgments within defined parameters of policy and professional standards.
  • Ability to use computers, computer software, and other technological aids to instruction.

Working Conditions/Additional Information

  • This position is a full-time on-campus position located at our Winter Haven campus, but will travel to clinical site locations as necessary. (Remote/hybrid classes are not typical for clinical/lab positions.)
  • Weekend and evening work may be required.
  • Position may be required to work during College closures (such as winter/spring break and inclement weather closures).
  • Reliable transportation is required for travel to campuses, centers, and clinical site locations. Possession of a valid Florida's Driver's License is required (or must be eligible to obtain a Florida's license within 30 day.
  • This position will require the ability to lift at least 20 lbs.

    • Pay is determined by degree level and experience.

Required Education:

A master's degree from a regionally accredited (or equivalent) institution of higher education in the teaching discipline, or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in Nursing.

Preferred Education:

A doctorate in Nursing is preferred.

Required Experience
  • At least two years of clinical practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Active unrestricted Florida license as R.N.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.

Preferred Experience:

  • Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in community or state college teaching and assessment.
  • Familiarity with distance education delivery methods is desirable.

This position will close at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024. THIS POSITION IS FOR THE FALL 2024 (August) SEMESTER.
