The Sr. Director, OptumRx Infusion Growth Strategy and Transformation is responsible for driving profitable growth for the Infusion business. This includes analyzing, developing, and executing OptumRx Infusion's strategy in service of patients, providers, pharma manufacturers, and payers, to position OptumRx as the leading Infusion pharmacy.


This leader is externally focused, relying on market intelligence and industry knowledge to formulate ambitious growth strategies for the organization. A key partner to the CEO, this role is responsible for activating on the strategy for the core pharmacy business and setting the course for diversified sources of profitable growth. This leader is proven in executing growth strategies and is comfortable applying a broad toolkit to deliver outsized results, including organic development, M&A, partnerships, internal priorities, efficiencies, and performance.


Success of this role will be measured in business financial performance and growth as well as successful accomplishment of key performance indicators tied to the strategic plan. The Sr. Director is responsible for motivating a team around a shared vision, cultivating a culture of inclusion and diversity, and building talent for future needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement business strategy for Optum Infusion Pharmacy to meet growth goals and increase market share through a competitive market position
  • Establish robust market intelligence/ stakeholder feedback engine (e.g., patient, payer, provider, manufacturer). Understand competitor and consumer dynamics/ estimate impact of market moves on strategy execution
  • Lead the development of Optum Infusion Pharmacy's five-year plan, annual business plan, capital plan and in-year business reviews
  • Drive decisions on major strategic opportunities by outlining options and making recommendations. Gather data and conduct analysis to support recommendations
  • Structure and execute strategic initiatives and projects aligned to Optum Infusion Pharmacy's business plans. Shape solution blueprints and deliver necessary projects/ programs. Scale successful changes and manage transformation to full impact across the business
  • Engage leadership and teams to secure resources (human, financial) to execute strategic priorities. Lead business capital planning process and represent OIP at Capital Committee meetings as appropriate
  • Orchestrate M&A efforts: Identify, cultivate, and evaluate targets. Lead diligence and integration planning
  • Engage and build solid relationships with the matrixed partners across the enterprise who will support the business' success
  • Build solid relationships with leadership team to influence and drive results through their organizations. Act as a trusted advisor and solid strategic voice as a member of the Infusion Leadership Team
  • Work cross-functionally to action strategic initiatives; execute through influence
  • Engage with senior leaders across UHG, Optum and OptumRx to ensure organizational alignment
  • Foster a high-performance culture while building talent with the capabilities needed to achieve long-term goals


This role will require travel up to 20% of the time to work with business teams and meet with external prospects.

Post-high school education, in business, health care administration, or related field can be substituted/is equivalent to years of experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of relevant and progressive leadership roles in healthcare
  • 5+ years of related pharmacy, outpatient or ambulatory care provider experience
  • 5+ years combined experience in finance, portfolio management, corporate strategy, M&A consulting or business development in a highly dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated experience working cross-functionally to coordinate and orchestrate execution of strategic initiatives and priorities
  • Demonstrated experience in gathering, consolidating and applying market insights to formulate market strategies
  • Experience executing on revenue or profit growth related initiatives/strategies. Experience ideally would include launching new services into market
  • Experience delivering results in highly dynamic environment while managing multiple competing priorities
  • Proven exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including executive level communications and business plan documentation
  • Proven track record as a leader who effectively builds high performing teams and improves the employee experience
  • Proven solid executive presence with excellent written and verbal communication skills across all audiences


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience in specialty and/or infusion pharmacy
  • Experience as a management consultant or strategic advisory service

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
