Job Details:

Purpose

Responsible for providing professional human resources services in support of the Cockrell School of Engineering, its academic departments and organized research units.

Responsibilities
  • Works closely with business units across CSE to provide proactive, high quality and timely human resources support. Process and maintain assignments for students, staff, and affiliates for CSE business units. Coordinate professional research positions and assignments, ensuring compliance with university policy. Support recruiting efforts. Coordinate onboarding and separation processes.

  • Supports student employment functions for assigned client groups. Works with hiring managers to identify student hiring needs, processes hires and rehires, maintains student timekeeping, and coordinates onboarding and separation activities for student workers.

  • Assists staff with understanding proper timekeeping practices, manages access to electronic time sheets, and works with staff and supervisors to make adjustments to leave balances as needed. Monitors timekeeping reports to ensure staff time sheets are completed in a timely manner and sends reminder notices to staff as needed.

  • Processes payment vouchers as needed, as well as vacation and overtime payments for staff. As needed, assist with processing tuition payments and tuition reduction benefits for student workers.

  • Coordinate CSE's flexible work arrangement program, maintaining internal guidelines and forms, reviewing all FWA requests for proper completion, and escalating issues to HR Director as needed.

  • Initiates faculty summer assignments and continuing education instructor assignments.

  • Create and maintain faculty and staff email listservs on a monthly basis, including managing ad hoc updates as needed.

  • Maintains personnel files and other sensitive records, ensuring integrity of files and proper shredding/disposal of obsolete records. Coordinate key requests and building access as needed.

  • Participates in the development of tools and resources designed to assist CSE business contacts with efficient and accurate HR management. Responsible for special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration Public Administration or related field.

  • Two years of professional experience in human resources or closely related field.

  • Understanding of various laws and best practices related to human resources and ability to apply that knowledge to problem solve complex issues.

  • Ability to effectively manage a high volume of work assignments under dynamic circumstances.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to create strong partnerships staff members at all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently as well as a member of a team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and applications in the Microsoft Office suite.

  • Experience working with confidential information and providing support to customers using discretion.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • SHRM or HRCI certification.

  • Experience performing human resources work in an academic environment.

  • Experience designing and creating digital forms, newsletters, websites, etc.

  • Excellent working knowledge of university policies and administrative tools such as Workday and DEFINE.

Salary Range

$50,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.

  • Repetitive use of keyboard at workstation.

  • Prolonged screen time.

Work Shift
  • Standard business hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  • Flexible schedule and/orhybrid teleworkmay be allowed.

  • Periodic work outside of normal business hours, to include evenings and weekends, may be required on a periodic basis during peak periods.
