OUR TEAM: The Automation Engineering team is made up of 5 Automation Engineers with varied industry experiences and lengths of service providing you a great ability to both learn and share your experience with others. We provide support for the bulk process and fill/finish equipment utilized in the production of Promega products. The Automation Engineering team regularly collaborates with other internal engineering disciplines such as process, equipment, facilities and packaging engineers.


YOUR ROLE: As an automation engineer, you will be responsible for supporting day-to-day operations, continuous improvement initiatives, and capital projects. You will lead design, procurement, commissioning, and validation of fill/finish equipment control systems, including PLC, vision, robotics and SCADA systems, for Promega's manufacturing teams. You will lead troubleshooting activities as necessary on production equipment. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a broad array of teams within Promega.

JOB OBJECTIVE: Apply advanced knowledge and experience with industrial control programming and hardware architecture to create specifications and standards for production system controls, and to maintain and modify control systems as required.


CORE DUTIES:


1. Lead cross-functional teams to execute small scale projects from conception through commissioning and validation, ensuring projects meet technical and budgetary objectives.


2. Write user requirement specifications for automation. Perform system design consultations, related to detailed hardware and software architectures for project teams.


3. Specify, design, and implement control systems for production equipment, including PLCs, instrumentation, vision and weight inspections, robotics, and SCADA systems.


4. Investigate and analyze dispensing, packaging, and batch operations for automation potential, ensuring alignment with safety and efficiency goals, focusing on continuous improvement.


5. Develop and maintain configuration control of automation programming, supporting operational integrity and compliance. Execute change control procedures consistent with Good Engineering Practices and our Quality Systems expectations.


6. Troubleshoot and solve problems with control logic, hardware devices, and network communications to minimize downtime and enhance system functionality.


7. Provide after-hours on-call support for critical process control issues and system malfunctions.


8. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with automation technology advancements and best practices.

11. Understands and complies with ethical, legal and regulatory requirements applicable to our business.


KEY QUALIFICATIONS:


1. B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics or a closely related field.


2. Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in automation engineering within a manufacturing environment.


3. Proven proficiency with Rockwell Automation PLCs, FactoryTalk View SE, and other relevant automation platforms.


4. Strong understanding of instrumentation, electrical prints, industrial networking, and electrical control systems.


5. Experience with industrial safety standards (ISA, NFPA, IEC, UL, NEC).


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Experience with automated liquid filling and secondary packaging systems.


2. Experience with problem solving, root cause analysis and technical troubleshooting in automated systems.


3. Experience working in engineering teams. Strong communication and collaboration skills.


4. Experience with developing Electrical Prints in AutoCad, experience with developing specifications for programming.


5. Experience with industrial data collection systems and operations metrics development.


6. Familiarity with cGMP, Validation, Qualification and commissioning in a regulated industry.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


1. Ability to work in various environments including production areas and labs, using standard safety equipment.


2. Capable of lifting up to 25 pounds and standing for extended periods during equipment installation and maintenance.


3. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed for project execution and equipment sourcing.
