Central Washington University is recruiting an Open Rank Professor, Mental Health Counseling/Program Coordinator to join our Psychology team in Ellensburg, Washington. The Role:

The Department of Psychology at Central Washington University (Ellensburg, WA) seeks an Open Rank Professor and Program Coordinator for a tenure-track position, specifically to support the reestablishment of the Mental Health Counseling master's program, which was on hold for 2023-24. Candidates should exhibit a strong professional identity, which includes notable commitment to teaching, developing their individual scholarship, involving undergraduate and graduate students in research, mentoring graduate students, and advising undergraduate psychology students. Candidates should be prepared to teach graduate-level counseling and undergraduate-level psychology courses, supervise counseling practica and/or internship, and provide quality service to the department, university, community, and their profession. The faculty member who accepts this position must be willing to commit to at least two days of in-person teaching on the Ellensburg campus per week and have the desire and skills to effectively teach distance-based courses via both synchronous and asynchronous formats.

This position is initially funded by a generous donation from Comprehensive Healthcare, a regional behavioral health services organization, for two years, after which it will be assumed by the university. The faculty will be the Comprehensive Healthcare (Rank) Professor and Program Coordinator and will use this title in all position-related communications for 6 years beginning in 2024-25. They will also have the responsibility for the coordination of the counseling program, including attending to inquiries regarding the program, providing input regarding ongoing program development, and acting as the program's primary leader.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Meet one of the following education requirements by September 15, 2024:
    • Have an earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP accredited program OR
    • Have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013 OR
    • Have been employed as a full-time doctoral-level faculty member in a CORE-accredited master's program prior to July 1, 2017 OR
    • Have graduated from a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018.
  • License eligible as a counselor in the state of Washington. The faculty member will be expected to gain licensure within two years of start date if they do not already have licensure as a counselor.
  • Strong professional identity as a counselor educator, including participation in professional activities, scholarly activities, and service to the profession.
  • Demonstrated commitment and/or experience to inclusive mentoring of students in undergraduate and/or graduate research and through teaching and/or mentoring activities.

**In order to be eligible for hire as an Associate or Full Professor, the candidate must have previous or current experience as an Associate or Full Professor. The incoming professor will be considered tenure-track until eligible for tenure. Tenure will be granted based on criteria in the collective bargaining agreement for CWU faculty.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a licensed clinician in the field of counseling.
  • Experience with teaching graduate and undergraduate level psychology courses that can engage and inspire students from diverse identities and backgrounds.
  • Record of scholarly productivity.
  • Training and experience providing clinical supervision.
  • Experience in clinical placement and coordination.
  • Familiarity with CACREP requirements and the willingness to serve as a program liaison, including the ability to meet all accreditation reporting requirements.
  • Graduate coursework in psychology.
  • Training and experience in the provision of distance-based education and clinical services.
  • Research, teaching, and service that demonstrates an ability to contribute to Central's vision to create a model learning community of equity and belonging.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

Salary: $61,999 - $95,000 annually, based on a full-time nine-month appointment.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position

Appointment: Temporary, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment. Additional Summer teaching may be available. Central Washington University is on the quarter system with appointments from mid-September through mid-June.
