Nursing Academic Program Director
Rasmussen University
Remote/Online

The Nursing Academic Program Director serves as the nursing leader over the BSN program, with the responsibility to provide vision, oversight, and direction for the curriculum to ensure academic quality and student success.

The Nursing Academic Program Director is responsible for identifying, assessing, and presenting issues around curriculum development, program review, learning outcome assessment, and the academic health of the BSN program. The Nursing Academic Program Director is responsible for developing content required for Board of Nursing reviews and CCNE programmatic accreditation, working collaboratively with the School of Nursing's Accreditation and Evaluation Coordinator and the University's Accreditation team.

The Nursing Academic Program Director must regularly engage with faculty teaching in the designated program to ensure student success and satisfaction based on the highest-quality academic programming.

Responsibilities:

Curriculum and Managerial Oversight - 75%

  • Serves as the key leader for all assigned courses within a program, providing expertise as requested.
  • Provides nursing onboarding experience for full-time faculty members after the initial orientation through the Center for Educational Readiness.
  • Collaborates with the respective Undergraduate or Graduate Curriculum Coordinator for courses within the select program(s) of oversight.
  • Ensures the accuracy of programmatic syllabi and proper archiving of all programmatic syllabi every quarter.
  • Contributes to developing courses and course revisions within the program, including assignments, rubrics, quizzes, etc., working closely with subject matter experts, content contributors, instructional designers, and other University stakeholders.
  • Assesses clinical and practicum needs for the program, working with nursing leadership and the Center for Educational Readiness, if applicable.
  • Reviews all course update requests and ensure that assigned textbooks/readings are current.
  • Reviews recommendations for all changes with the AVP of Nursing Academic Programs, the corresponding Curriculum Coordinator, and the Curriculum Council.
  • Disseminates any programmatic changes as needed to the leadership team within the SON and applicable faculty and affected students.
  • Identifies and addresses day-to-day program concerns to appropriate personnel for immediate remedies, developing short-term and long-term strategies and solutions.
  • Develops content required for Board of Nursing reviews and/or programmatic accreditation, working collaboratively with the School of Nursing's Accreditation and Evaluation Coordinator and the University's Accreditation team.
  • Serves as a faculty member when needed.
  • Represents the specific program on School of Nursing committees, Councils, and University committees as requested.

Metrics and Evaluation 25%

  • Maintains accuracy and archive of standardized elements such as QCR templates, Clinical Evaluation templates, etc.
  • Completes ongoing program review and enhancement processes as defined by the ASLOR (annual student learning outcomes review) and the APR (academic program review).
  • Maintains specific benchmarks and data assessments as per the Systematic Evaluation Plan of the School of Nursing.
  • Collaborates to create an annual set of goals and objectives which guide program activities.

Reporting Relationships:

The Nursing Academic Program Director reports to the Associate Dean/Nursing Academic Program Director. The Nursing Academic Program Director works collaboratively with the VP and Associate Chief Academic Officer of Nursing, and the Assistant Vice President of Nursing Systems, and other members of the School of Nursing.

The Nursing Academic Program Director must engage regularly with faculty teaching in the designated program to ensure student success and student satisfaction based upon academic programming being of the highest quality.

Position Requirements:

  • Three years or more of teaching experience in a higher education setting.
  • Doctorate degree required
  • Current unencumbered RN license required
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance agencies (e.g., CCNE, ACEN, HLC).
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development, mapping, test writing, etc.
  • Professional communication skills needed to interact with others.
  • Demonstrated track record of organizational/team/individual development.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, goal-oriented, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to set priorities, work effectively under pressure, and meet frequently occurring deadlines with minimum supervision.
