Job Description

The Division of Applied Social Sciences (DASS) seeks applications for a nine-month Assistant Research Professor position to support research efforts with the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI) and the MU Water Center. This is a non-tenure track, 9 month appointment position.

FAPRI has extensive experience examining issues related to agricultural markets and policies and the MU Water Center has expertise in issues ranging from hydrology to the environmental consequences of alternative water management policies. The successful candidate for this position should complement existing FAPRI and Water Center faculty and staff.

MU recently obtained a three-year agreement with the National Institute of Standards and Technology to examine issues related to flood risk resiliency and inland waterway navigation. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to that project by conducting and coordinating applied research relevant to benefit-cost analysis of flood mitigation and river transportation enhancement efforts. This may involve coordination with the Army Corps of Engineers and interaction with a variety of stakeholders.

Professional Responsibilities: While the assignment of specific responsibilities will depend on the experience, credentials, and interests of the successful candidate, it is expected that candidates will be able to:

Conduct original research in water economics, addressing critical issues related to water resource management, allocation, pricing, and sustainability.

Publish scholarly articles in reputable journals and contribute to the academic discourse in the field.

Collaborate with other faculty members, research centers, and external stakeholders to advance knowledge in water economics.

Seek external funding through grant proposals to support research projects related to water economics.

Participate in interdisciplinary research initiatives and secure funding from federal agencies, foundations, or industry partners.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Environmental Economics, Natural Resource Economics, Regional Economics or related field by the time of appointment.

Applicants will be evaluated on: Ability to conduct and publish applied research to solve relevant problems. Ability to gather and participate in interdisciplinary teams. Ability to work with industry stakeholders and government agencies to discover needs and create projects to meet those needs.
