Summary of Job Duties:The Education Specialist provides case management services to the Seeking To Reinforce my Identity and Values Everyday (STRIVE) Program, assisting the therapists and working under their supervision. The Education Specialist is responsible for coordinating all services for clients in the STRIVE school based program. He/she follows the guidance of the primary therapist to help carry out treatment plan goals and objectives. These mental health services will be provided in the school and community setting. Education Specialist will have a productivity expectation that is set by the Department and Program Manager.Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, English, Speech Communication or related field plus 2 years of experience OR High School Diploma plus 6 years of experience.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related field plus three (3) years of mental health experience.

  • Mental Health Paraprofessional certification within 90 days of hire.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Directs services to clients and their families (includes obtaining PCP referrals, helping make any needed appointments for the client and family, helping schedule transportation for the client and their family.

  • Attends med clinic appointments and court appointments as needed, as well as providing any on/off site interventions and/or collaterals teachers and/or outside agencies.

  • Documents in the clinical record, staffing and meetings, administrative tasks, training.

  • Travels to clients' homes, schools and other community agencies such as juvenile court

  • Works independently and will use independent judgment in working with clients under the supervision of a lead Case Manager, Mental Health Professional and the Program Manager. For example, if a client reports suicidal ideation, the employee will consult immediately with the mental professional responsible for the case. In another case, the employee may implement a behavior plan with the client's parent, and would require minimal supervision for that task.

  • Responsible for a number of billable hours per week, to be established by the supervisor.

  • Interacts daily with the STRIVE Program, as well as the staff of community agencies such as schools, and will interact occasionally with Psychiatric Research Institute staff and other UAMS staff.

  • Reports to the STRIVE Program Manager, but on individual cases, will report to the therapist assigned to the case.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
